job vacancies at UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN

University of Ibadan (UI) - Open and Distance Learning (ODL) is an excellent method of reaching learners who are separated by time/or distance. Owing to the competing priorities of work, home and school, such learners desire a high degree of flexibility. Distance Learning entails the state of being apart, separateness or remoteness in the relationship between learners, teachers (facilitators), other learners and the course content. The structure of distance learning gives learners the greatest control possible over the time, place and pace of education from both pedagogical and technological perspectives, Distance Learning is fast changing and its predominance as a delivery method for instruction is well documented.

It is in the light of the above that applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the under-listed academic staff positions in the Distance Learning Centre of the University of Ibadan. Successful candidates will be required to facilitate/provide academic and administrative on-line support to aid brief interactive sessions for the students of the University on the ODL mode and liaise with relevant academic Units of the University. Saheed Balogun Drags Faithia to court

Few years ago, Saheed Balogun reportedly said he would soon stop his ex wife, Fathia Balogun, from using his name.
Saheed was quoted to have said “She is my ex. As for my name that she is still answering, the deed will be done soon. The Nigerian law says that after three or four years, you can do something about it. If somebody wants to keep my name, what of the new person coming in? This has nothing to do with grudges.”
And now, it looks as if Saheed is set to do something about his threat.
A reliable source informed Saturday Beats that the actor had taken his ex to court insisting that she drop his name.
Recall also that Fathia had also reportedly boasted in an interview last year, that nobody could stop her from using her name.
Fathia had said, “I laugh, my name is Fathia Balogun and it’s going to remain Balogun; nobody can ever change that and nobody can stop me from answering that name.”

I Was forced to Masturbate---David beckham

Retired footballer David Beckham recently revealed that he was forced to masturbate in front of his teammates as part of his initiation into Manchester United's youth team in 1991.

Beckham, who opened up about the incident in a documentary titled The Class of ’92, said the incident happened when he was just 16 years old. He said he was forced to stare at a calendar photo of eighties Reds soccer player Clayton Blackmore (pictured right) and pleasure himself, while his teammate watched, as part of an embarrassing hazing ritual.
“Everyone had an initiation that you had to go through on the youth team, that was one of the most uncomfortable ones. The fact that I had to look at Clayton Blackmore’s calendar and do certain things. I was embarrassed when I was saying it on camera let alone talking about it more. But it’s something that we all had to go through. It was definitely something I wouldn’t like to go through again!' Beckham said

(STRIKE CONTINUES) YOU CAN RUN YOUR MOUTH , ASUU to FG

Following the directive by the Federal Government that all the federal universities should re-open on December 4, the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said that it remains resolute on its indefinite strike.
Secretary of the University of Abuja chapter of the union, Abubakar Suleiman, who reacted to the development in a phone chat with our correspondent in Abuja, said the conditions given by the union before the strike would be suspended are still germane, insisting that the union would not compromise its stand on account of intimidation by the government.
He described the directive by the government to reopen the universities as acting as if the country was in a military era, saying, “the Minister (Nyeson Wike) can run his mouth and make any pronouncement for all we care, the strike is still on and we are not going to call it off on account of intimidation.

I regretted my comment -Gov Adams Oshiomole

Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo on Friday apologised for the comments he made to a widow in Benin during an inspection tour on Mission Road, in the state capital, a fortnight ago.
Oshiomhole said that he now regretted the comments which had become the subject of discourse in the social media.
The Governor, however, noted that he made the comments in anger.
Oshiomhole’s apology was made when the leadership of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria, paid him a courtesy visit in Benin.
He noted that though the challenge of modern times had bestowed on the shoulders of some women and single mothers the status of bread winners of their homes, such should not be used as an accuse to flout the laws.
The Governor urged the Muslim women leaders to use their offices to propagate the essence of healthy living among children and women in the nation and the need to maintain proper sanitary conditions in their neighbourhoods.
Oshiomhole lamented that the challenge of widowhood had also exposed children to different temptations, adding that there was the need for society to be careful, to avoid unwittingly creating more problems for the nation.
He noted that money was not the best thing that guaranteed ones happiness, “but honesty and selfless service.

YOU ARE A WIDOW, GO AND DIE- Says Gov Adams Oshiomole

"You're a widow, go and die!" That's what Governor Adams Oshiomhole said to widow during a sanitation exercise of Benin City with some state officials recently. The woman was hawking on the road side which is illegal in the state but to tell her to go and die after she knelt in front of him, crying and begging him not to seize her little means of livelihood, is just cold-hearted.

SHOCKING REVELATION-- the children are not mine-Odartey Lamptey

Former Ghanaian international footballer Nii Odartey Lamptey has revealed that he recently found out that all three children he had with his wife of almost 20 years are not his biological children. He made the shocking revelation in a radio interviewed when asked why he was divorcing his wife.
“...I thought they were my children but upon a DNA test, I got to know that they are not my biological children. The issue is in court so I’m pleading, because it is a legal issue I don’t want to go through so many things, but I am 100% sure that the children are not mine after 20-years of marriage. We had five children but two passed away so we were left with only 3 and they are not mine" The former Aston Villa player told reporters
Meanwhile, his estranged wife Gloria Lamptey (pictured above) is claiming that it was Lamptey who suggested they use artificial insemination after realizing he was infertile. A claim Lamptey denies. A close friend of the former Anderlecht footballer said he'd on several occasions caught his wife cheating on him but stayed with her because of his love for her and the businesses they own together.

The estranged couple are now in court

Beyonce is a stupid Person-......says hawass

beyonce kicked out pyramids
It's hard to believe Beyonce would be kicked out of anything or anywhere, but that's reportedly what happened when an infamous archaeologist booted her from the Egyptian pyramids.
Beyonce travelled to Egypt back in 2009 during her I Am... Tour. Shortly after the superstar stopped by the pyramids, she was bashed by Dr. Zahi Hawass, otherwise known as "Egypt's Indiana Jones." The Egyptologist allegedly referred to the "Love On Top" singer as a "stupid person" who "doesn't understand a thing" and only went there to take photos, BET reported at the time, via local newspapers.
Hawass also cut short her tour of the iconic Egyptian site, according to a new interview.
"Most people I take on tours are very nice and we become friends. But this lady...," Hawass recently told the Independent of Beyonce's visit to the pyramids. "She said she would come at 3 p.m. but she came late. I said 'You have to say I'm sorry I'm late.' But she didn't open her mouth."
"I brought a photographer and she also had a photographer and a guard," he added. "When my photographer started to shoot, he said 'No, Stop! I am the one who says yes or no, not you.' I said, 'In that case since you almost hit my photographer and you are not polite - out! I am not giving you the privilege of having you on my tour.' I said Beyonce was stupid and I left."
Hawass, who was once the Egyptian antiquities minister, is a controversial figure.
Although he has been commended for boosting interest in archaeology in the region, his credibility has come into question, and he has been criticized for his love of publicity. In 2011, he was fired because of his relationship with ousted President Hosni Mubarak's regime, The Associated Press reported.
He came under investigation for various indiscretions -- corruption, wasting public funding and shipping Egyptian antiquities overseas without permission, opening them up to theft -- according to the Smithsonian magazine. He was also banned from traveling outside of the country.

"Thanksgiving was the holiday that I always spent with my dad skiing every year in Vail, Colorado since I was 2 years old to 22," she wrote of her dad, who died of esophageal cancer in 2003. (sport) Madrid growing without Ronaldo

Angel Di Maria believes that Real Madrid showed they can grow as a team despite being without Cristiano Ronaldo as they romped to a 4-1 victory over Galatasaray.

The Portuguese forward is sidelined for the Blancos, but that did not stop Carlo Ancelotti's men from embarrassing the Turkish side at the Santiago Bernabeu in the penultimate Champions League group stage round of matches.

Di Maria, 25, scored the third goal against Roberto Mancini's men and the Argentine thinks it was important to establish their dominance in Group B, with Wedneday's result securing their passage to the last 16.

"We must continue to grow as a team," he told reporters. "We have a big lead [in the group] and that is very important for the coach."

Madrid played the majority of the encounter with 10 men after defender Sergio Ramos was sent off early on. and Di Maria was proud with how the team reacted to the initial setback.

"I'm happy with the win," he added. "The team sacrificed themselves in a way, we got through to the second round, which is what we wanted."

Gareth Bale opened the scoring with a fine free kick before Umut Bulut equalised for Galatasaray with half-time lingering, but Alvaro Arbeloa, Di Maria and Isco put Mancini's men to the sword.

Madrid sit top of Group B with 13 points - seven ahead of Juventus, and nine clear of both Galatasaray and Copenhagen.

NLC,TUC to intervene in ASUU, FG crisis

As the face-off between the Federal Government and striking university lecturers under the the Aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities took yet another twist on Thursday, there were indications that the organised labour in the country will mediate in the crisis.
The Coordinating Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, had given the marching order to the lecturers, who have been on strike since July, to return to work by Wednesday next week or risk being fired by the Federal Government.
As part of the efforts to ensure that the schools were reopened,  Kaigama and the Acting General Secretary of the NLC had called on the Federal Government to pay the arrears of salaries owed the striking university lecturers to them on Tuesday.
However, the TUC President said the organized labour was concerned with the resolution of the crisis and would avoid blaming either party involved in the crisis

ASUU strike may be called off wthin 24hrs

According to the latest report by the Nation Newspaper, the Academic Staff Union of Universities today said the ongoing strike by university lecturers would be suspended within 24 hours. Read the full Report below;

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Wednesday said the ongoing strike by university lecturers would be suspended within 24 hours once the new resolutions reached with President Goodluck Jonathan on November 4 were accepted.
The union, however, described the statement credited to the Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, that ASUU was making new outrageous demands as “untrue and absolute lie.”
The union said it asked President Jonathan to facilitate the endorsement of resolutions reached with him and signed by high ranking government official preferably the Attorney-General of the Federation but not a permanent secretary.
ASUU said a representative of the body including the President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Abdulwahid Omar, would stand as witnesses.
The union said it wanted the N200 billion agreed upon as 2013 revitalisation fund for public universities to be warehoused with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and disbursed to the benefiting universities.
ASUU’s position was conveyed by the union National Treasurer, Dr. Ademola Aremu, while speaking with The Nation in an interview in Ibadan on Wednesday.
He said the union appreciated the intervention of President Jonathan but noticed that some of the resolutions reached with the President were not included in the letter sent to the union.
According to him, the supervising Minister of Education was economical with the truth by not telling Nigerians that apart from the N30 billion earned allowances released for university staff, the government was yet to release the N100 billion claimed to have been released.”

Khloe to pay $10m to Lamar

Lamar Odom is demanding $10m to end his 4-year marriage to Khloe Kardashian!
Sources say the troubled NBA star has also taken a page out of his fellow hoopster Kris Humphries’ playbook by demanding Khloe’s $875,000 engagement ring back before he’ll agree to zip his lips about the K-clan’s secrets. Humphries got Kim Kardashian to return her $2 million engagement ring as part of their divorce agreement following their 72- day marriage in 2011. Odom, 34, laid out his conditions after “momager” Kris Jenner ordered Khloe, 29, to sit down with their attorneys and hammer out a divorce deal, an insider says.
“Kris and Khloe are very worried about Lamar. He’s a loose cannon, and he has a lot of dirt on the family and nothing to lose,” a source told The ENQUIRER. “He knows all about their extreme surgery procedures – when, how often and how much – and the pressure put on the younger girls to follow suit.”
“Lamar is also prepared to destroy Khloe’s reputation by discussing their sex tape, and how she targeted him and tore his family apart.”
Meanwhile, with statistics showing the Kardashian family’s popularity is plummeting, matriarch Kris apparently wants the divorce deal done ASAP. “Kris is insisting on a confidentiality agreement to ensure Lamar can never discuss his life with the Kardashians either in print or verbally,” noted the source. “He’s not signing anything until they cough up the dough.”

CHRIS Brown surrendered his phone at the Rehab

Chris Brown surrendered his phone and the Internet while in rehab for anger management, TMZ has learned -- but he didn't give up his weed without a fight.

When Chris enrolled in his court-ordered rehab joint after last week's progress hearing in the Rihanna beating case ... he asked the rehab staff if he could bring his weed along.

Chris told staff the Mary Jane was prescribed by a doctor for a medical condition -- depression --  but the staff rejected his request. We're told Chris kicked up a stink, claiming pot makes him calm, but the staff was unbending.

As we reported, the judge in the case ordered Brown to enroll in a live-in anger management facility for 90 days following his previous stint in anger rehab, when he was booted after just two weeks ... ironically because he flew into a violent rage.

Hopefully the no-weed rule won't exacerbate Chris's anger problems. They won't like him when he's angry.

UNILAG chapter divided over ASUU strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU yesterday warned vice chancellors not to adopt coercive and forceful strategies to get lecturers to resume work. ASUU Chairman at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, AAUA, Ondo State, Dr. Busuyi Mekusi, gave the advice in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
“We are also pleading with the university administrators not to illegally employ impromptu lecturers.
“They should also not announce fake resumption dates or disrupt the meetings of ASUU members on campuses. “Such measures will not abate the already frosty relationship between the union, government and the university authorities”, he stressed.
He called for the convocation of ‘institutional summit’ as a way of starting the take-off of a rebirth process for public institutions in Nigeria to become more effective. He said social transformation would not succeed unless the Federal Government was strongly committed to entrenching strong and independent public agencies
. “We must not continue to deceive ourselves that governance, democracy and politics will reach enviable heights with the kind of public institutions in place.
“The truth of democracy as the expression of the people’s will and aspirations will come alive when Nigeria has public institutions that have not been politicised,” he said.
It will be recall that some state universities, including that of Ebonyi, had directed their lecturers and students to return to campus yesterday, to resume lectures and studies. Meanwhile, the University of Lagos, Akoka branch of the union has been divided over the continuation of the strike.
The development has led to the emergence of two factions within the institution. While one group wants the five-month old strike to be called off immediate, the other group, led by the branch chairman, Dr. Karo Ogbinaka insists on the Federal Government meeting a substantial part of the ongoing discussion.
Leader of the breakaway group, Dr. Adeyemi Daramola, a lecturer in the Department of English, Faculty of Arts yesterday accused the union of extremism on their stance on the strike. He said the strike ought to have been called off by now if the leadership has taken the interests of members as well as the public as paramount.
“Except for a few, a majority of us, including myself are tired of staying off classrooms. It is only that many are afraid to talk especially to journalists. So, this strike is unnecessarily too long. Precious times have been wasted on it. The action has already altered academic calendar with dare consequences on the system.
“So, it is not that ASUU’s course for embarking on the industrial action in the first instance is no longer tenable. The fact is that enough is enough. By next month, the strike will enter its sixth month. Is that not too much?
“Now, the Presidency has offered to settle with us and also ready to pay us our four months’ salaries once we resume to class, but I don’t know what the leadership wants again. Why will they be insisting that the salaries must be paid before resumption?
That demand is not good enough. Let resume first and see what will happen from the government side,” Daramola said. He further told National Mirror that the beauty and relevance of the strike was to call it off without any further delay and not to extend it to next year, as the leadership is projecting. But reacting, Ogbinaka described the position of Daramola’s faction as betrayal
He accused the faction of being financially induced to cause division and confusion within the union. He said UNILAG-ASUU not only remains as one but also has strong commitment to continue supporting the national leaders of the union in its effort to resolving the remaining grey areas in its discussion with the Federal Government.

Over concentration of Rice and Bread Can Cause Breast-Cancer-Mrs Fashola

Wife of the Lagos State governor, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, yesterday warned residents of the state to control their intake of bread and rice to avoid being infected by non-communicable diseases, especially hypertension and diabetes.
She said such would also reduce the incidence of breast, cervix and prostate cancers, reiterating the state government’s determination to curtail deaths resulting from terminal diseases.
The governor’s wife spoke yesterday at the Wellness Health Screening programme, where over 100, 000 residents were to be screened for various lifethreatening terminal diseases commenced.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the Rauf Aregbesola Primary Health Centre in Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area, Mrs. Fashola, who called for frequent and timely medical check-ups in order to detect diseases earlier, said she knew of no fewer than six people that had been killed by breast cancer within a month this year alone.
She said, according to medical experts, "over concentration of rice and bread and other common heavy food in the body system do more harm than good to the body". She said: “This year alone, I know of at least six people who died of breast cancer. You will just hear the person is dead suddenly.
That is how people, both the old and the young dies. The best thing we can do is to go for regular medical checkup and screening. You now have to stay away from or reduce the consumption of rice and bread. Some people can’t do without rice. Whenever doctors abroad see blacks and Indians, the first medical advice they will give us is to abstain from eating rice and bread.
“If you don’t eat rice and bread in a week, you will also see how your body we look like. So, you must reduce consumption of rice and bread, don’t say because you are in Lagos, you must eat rice or bread.”
She cautioned people to be wary of what they consume and pay attention to themselves more than they do to their property so as to remain healthy, urging them to engage in regular exercises.
On his part, the council Chairman, Mr. Abiodun Mafe, said the rate at which Nigerians die of non-communicable diseases calls for serious concern, calling on all residents to seize the opportunity of the free health screening to do a thorough medical check-up to know their health status.

MESSI IS MOVING TO MANCHESTER CITY

                                             LIONEL MESSI
Lionel Messi has taken a keen interest in life at Manchester City, according to his Argentina team-mate Pablo Zabaleta.
City defender Zabaleta, who moved to the Etihad Stadium in 2008 from Espanyol, claims Barcelona star Messi has often asked him about the club since his switch to Manchester.
Zabaleta is not the first City player to discuss the Argentine star, with striker Alvaro Negredo recently claiming he could see Messi moving to Manchester in the future if he grows tired of life in Catalunya.
Messi, crowned the best player in the world for the last four years, has been linked with a move away from Barcelona – Bayern Munich and City are among his reported suitors – and Zabaleta revealed life with the Premier League giants is something the pair regularly discuss.
“I remember when we were in Barcelona we were very close friends because we were living in the same city and had known each other for a number of years,” he said.
“I was just starting out at Espanyol and Lionel was at Barca. When I signed for City I think two days later the news broke that Sheikh Mansour had bought the club and Lionel always recalls that I joined at such a fantastic time.
“He asked me a lot about City but I couldn’t tell him much because I didn’t know much myself – but it’s something we often talk about. Plus the fact that I’m still here.”
City face Viktoria Plzen in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, with the Premier League side having already secured their qualification for the knockout stages for the first time.
However, Zabaleta was keen to play down his side’s chances of winning the competition.
“We are up against the best teams in Europe and it is a difficult competition to win being realistic,” he added.

ASARI DOKUBO ARRESTED IN BENIN REP

The leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, was today arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
A statement by his lawyer, Festus Keyamo, said Dokubo was picked up by the police between 1:00pm and 2:00pm around the Lubeleyi roundabout, and taken to an unknown destination.
The wealthy former militant reportedly opened a private university in the Benin Republic, the King Amachree African University that is preparing to start degree-awarding programmes in 2014.
“We want to emphasise that Alhaji Dokubo-Asari carries on legitimate business and has been living partly in Benin Republic for many years now,” Keyamo said in his statement.  “In fact, he owns houses, schools and an academy in that country. All these places have been searched as at this evening and nothing incriminating was found.”
He suggested that Dokubo’s arrest and detention may be a ploy by “certain forces in Nigeria in unholy alliance with the Beninoise government” to keep his client away as 2015 approaches.
“We call on the Nigerian government to immediately intervene and ensure that no harm befalls Alhaji Dokubo-Asari and to use all diplomatic means to secure his immediate release and safe return to Nigeria,” he said.
Dokubo has in recent times vowed that unless Mr. President Jonathan retains the presidency in 2015, Nigeria would break up.

A press release from lawyer Festus Keyamo explaining that his friend and client, ex-militant Asari Dokubo was arrested in Benin Republic today. Read the press release below...

Today, Tuesday, November 26, 2013, my friend and client, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, around the hours of 1:00pm and 2:00pm by the country’s gendarmes (Police Force).
He was picked up around the Lubeleyi roundabout and taken to an unknown destination. We want to emphasise that Alhaji Dokubo-Asari carries on legitimate business and has been living partly in Benin Republic for many years now. In fact, he owns houses, schools and an academy in that country. All these places have been searched as at this evening and nothing incriminating was found.
We think his arrest and detention is a ploy by certain forces in Nigeria in unholy alliance with the Beninoise government to keep him away as 2015 approaches.

We call on the Nigerian government to immediately intervene and ensure that no harm befalls Alhaji Dokubo-Asari and to use all diplomatic means to secure his immediate release and safe return to Nigeria.
Meanwhile, we shall be liaising immediately with our colleagues in that country to enforce his fundamental rights.

Thank you.
