Press Release:SSS confirms death of 21 detainees after foiled prison break
The spokesperson for the Department of State Security Services (SSS) Marilyn Ogar said yesterday that 21 detained terrorists died during the attempted jailbreak at the Service's headquarters in Abuja on Sunday morning.
"Following our earlier releases, it has been established that eighteen (18) casualties were recorded, while two (2) Service personnel sustained serious injuries. Three (3) other detainees who sustained gunshot injuries during the incident have also died.
"Meanwhile, investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the immediate and remote causes.

Nyako tells Jonathan!Stop blaming the Northerners on your poor perfomance
Jonathan spoke on saturday at the North East Zonal rally of the PDP in Bauchi, capital of Bauchi state. Nyako, who used to be a member of Jonathan’s PDP and has now joined the opposition APC, responded yesterday.
He described the President’s claim as unfortunate and insisted that it was the poor leadership exhibited by the Jonathan administration that had aided and abetted the rising spate of terrorism in the North.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state categorically that if there is any proof of bad governance, it will be located in the way and manner the President executes his priorities and the kind of statements he and his spokespersons make. Governors are not and cannot be held responsible for security challenges since they have no control over security apparatus. The President is the Commander-in-Chief with powers over the Armed Forces, Police and other security agencies,”Nyako said.

Security was beefed up around the
Presidential Villa and other parts of Abuja on Sunday morning as heavy
shootings were recorded at the headquarters of the State Security
Service.
The SSS headquarters, known as Yellow House, is located behind the Villa.
The access gate to the Villa through the
Fire Service office in Asokoro was quickly shut while more heavily
armed soldiers were seen at the gate leading to the nation’s seat of
power through the Federal Secretariat.

BUSTED! NDLEA arrests 34yr Old man who inserts heroine in his anus
Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 34-year-old man who allegedly inserted two wraps of heroin into his anus to bring it into the country.
This is contained in a statement by Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, Head, Public Affairs of NDLEA, on Friday in Lagos.
It said the suspect was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on his arrival from Pakistan.
According to the statement, the heroin was detected during inward screening of passengers on a Qatar airline flight.

Thirty nine-year-old Angela Chidozie, who
was arrested last week Friday by men of the Ogun State Police Command
at a house she allegedly used as a ‘baby factory’ in Akute area of the
state, is currently cooling off at the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child
Labour Unit of the command.
She was arrested with eight young girls who are in different stages of pregnancy.
The fair-complexioned lady told Saturday PUNCH that money was not the aim of operating the business.
Chidozie insisted that she was sure none of her patrons bought the babies for ritual purposes.
Asked how she was sure of that, she said,
“I study those who come to buy babies from me. When I am sure that they

A 25 year old house help identified simply as David has been arrested
for attacking and beheading a 65 year old retired Chief magistrate, Vanguard reports.Olufunmilayo Timeyin was slaughtered at her residence in Laderin estate in Obafemi-Owode LGA of Ogun State.
David allegedly scaled the fence of the late Timeyin’s bungalow, deactivated the security system inside the building and laid siege within the premises before hacking the retired magistrates to death.

Military arrests 31 Boko Haram member,kills 11 others in Adamawa
The Special Forces have arrested 31
fighters of the Boko Haram Sect who were attempting to flee the country
through Taraba State and Gumti in Adamawa State into Cameroon.
The Director of Defence Information,
Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, said in an electronic mail on Thursday that
one of those arrested was a mercenary claiming to be a citizen of Chad
and Burkinafaso.
Olukolade also said that 11 insurgents were also killed during shootouts with troops in the border communities.
He said that the terrorists who were
involved in the encounter with the Special Forces were trapped and were
forced out of their hideout by hunger.
Federal High Court Nullifies the collection of Toll fee on Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge
The Federal High Court in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria Thursday ordered the Lagos State Government to stop collecting toll on the N29 billion Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, describing toll collection on the bridge as illegal.
A civil rights lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa had in April
last year gone to court asking the court to declare unconstitutional
collection of toll by the Lagos State Government on a bridge on a
Federal waterway and the imposition of tolls on him and other users of
the same bridge.Adegboruwa had said the collection of tolls on the bridge constituted a violation of his fundamental human rights and that of others without alternative route for him to pass.
Gas Explosion rocks Abuja Shopping Plaza
According to PUNCH,
Residents scampered for safety on Thursday as explosion rocks Shagari Plaza on Moshood Abiola Way, Garki-Area One, Abuja.
The quick succession in which the
explosion occurred made customers and neighbours to scamper into safety.
Many expressed fears that it was a bomb explosion.
But an eyewitness account said the first
explosion occurred at about 5:17pm when a gas cylinder exploded. A jeep
parked close to the gas dispenser went up in flames.
The gas retailer, who tried to recover
his money kept under one of the cylinders, was also caught in the
explosion while trying to save his earnings for the day. “He kept it
under one of the cylinders. As he was trying to take the money, another
cylinder exploded,” another eyewitness said.

PDP approves Ayo Fayose governorship candidate
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP, on Wednesday approved the election of Mr Ayo Fayose as the party`s candidate for the 21 June Ekiti State governorship election.
Mr Olisa Metuh, the party`s National Publicity Secretary in a statement said the NWC approved the nomination of Fayose after a thorough consideration of the report of the Ekiti State Governorship Primary Electoral Committee.

Court nullifies FRSC new plate Number
Premium Times reports
Delivering judgment in a suit filed by Emmanuel Ofoegbu, a lawyer, against the FRSC, the judge said that it was unlawful for the commission to impose the new number plates on Nigerians, where no existing law permitted it.
“The issue of redesigning new number plates by the respondent, is not covered under the provisions of any law in Nigeria,” said James Tsoho, the judge.“The respondent (FRSC) cannot force Nigerians to acquire new plate numbers by impounding cars, without the backing of any legislation to that effect.
“I hold that the act of the respondent amounts to an arbitrary use of power, and is therefore illegal and unconstitutional.
“Judgment is therefore entered in favour of the plaintiff, and all the reliefs sought is hereby granted, I so hold,” the judge added.

Zenith Bank before his new appointment. He replaces Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who was suspended by the Federal Government on February 20th over allegations of financial recklessness and misconduct.

Youth protest the removal of interior minister over NIS recruitment saga
Some Youths yesterday marched to the Ministry of
Interior in Abuja to protest the death of some Nigerians who went in search
of jobs at the just concluded NIS recruitment exercise which took place across
the nation. The protesters complained bitterly that death for jobs in a nation
such as Nigeria is unacceptable. They also emphasized that the victims’

Two ladies residing in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria have given a moving account of their ordeal in the hands of suspected members of the Boko Haram sect and how they managed to escape.
Speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa service monitored in Kaduna on Monday, Liatu, aged 23, said she spent 12 days in the hands of her abductors inside the Sambisa forest before she escaped. According to her, she had left Maiduguri on her way to the village when she was abducted, adding that the Boko Haram
members had barricaded the road just near the Bama bridge, killed some people and went away with others into the bushes.

Fresh Attack!Boko Haram Killed 5 Policeman and 3civilians in Maiduguri
Suspected Boko Haram militants on Tuesday hurled explosives in Nigeria’s troubled northeastern city of Maiduguri, killing five police officers, while a separate blast killed three.
The attacks were the latest to hit the Borno state capital, which is the epicentre of Boko Haram’s brutal insurgency which has killed thousands since 2009, including more than 700 this year.
In two separate incidents, a moving car packed with explosives blew up in Maiduguri’s Government Farm Area at 7:50 am (0650 GMT), killing three civilians, Borno police spokesman Gideon Jibrin said.
The vehicle “was obviously meant to be used against (a) target somewhere in the city”, he said, but exploded prematurely for reasons that were not immediately clear.

Professor Dora Akunyili, the former strong woman of National Agency for Food, Drug Administration Agency caused a stir when she appeared at the National Judicial Institute venue of the ongoing national conference in Abuja on Monday looking very pale and emaciated, a far cry from her usual vivacious self.
Many delegates could not recognise her at first glance as they were shocked by her almost ghoulish appearance.
On her facebook page on Tuesday, the former Iron Lady who as NAFDAC DG gave drug counterfeiters hell and whose tenure was globally celebrated for the clean up of the Nigerian pharmaceutical industry admitted that she has been ill: “I just came out of a major sickness, for which I thank Almighty God for delivering me. I know that God did that for a purpose.
“I am well now but only need time to put on more weight. However, I am strong enough for this Conference and I look forward to collaborating with other delegates to chart the way for a better Nigeria,” added the former Minister who is also one of the few Ministers who spoke up against the cabal that was playing dangerous games with the country when late President Umaru Yar’ Adua was sick.
She resigned from the cabinet of President Jonathan who succeeded Yar’Adua to contest Senatorial position in Anambra, her home State under the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance, but she lost the election to Dr. Chris Ngige of the APC.

Wizkid confirms break up with GF Tania
Wizkid and Tania Omotayo are really broken up. At least for now. Minus
the fact that sources close to the music star confirmed to me, Wizkid
himself confirmed it last Thursday during a radio interview with Gbemi
on the Drive Time show on Beat FM. When Gbemi questioned him about his
relationship with Tania, Wizkid replied;
