Barack Obama pays respect to New King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia
The US President Barack Obama has paid a visit to Saudi Arabia following the death of late, King Abdullah.
Obama visited the new king, Salman
on Tuesday, January 27 to pay his respects and to discuss the future
relationship between the two countries, who are strong allies.
The
US President had cut short a state visit to India in order to travel to
the Middle-Eastern country before returning to Washington.
Obama was accompanied on the trip by his wife, Michelle and they were joined by Secretary of State, John Kerry.
King Abdullah, who was a close friend of the US, died on Friday, January 23 and was buried the same day according to Muslim rites. more photos below....

Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), has called for the arrest of an ex-Niger
Delta militants, including Mujahideen Dokubo-Asari and Government
Ekpudomenowei(akaTompolo) for threatening to declare war against the
nation if President Goodluck loses the February 14 election.
Danjuma, who described the threat as
“unguarded and reckless,” warned that “miscreants” must not be allowed
to hold the country by the jugular.

termed, the intimidation of the Ijaw by other Nigerians.

Labaran Maku is an ingrate, a Liar-Ahmadu Ali
President Goodluck Jonathan; President
of the Senate, David Mark; and a former Chairman of the Peoples
Democratic Party, Ahmadu Ali, on Tuesday lashed out at a former Minister
of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, for dumping the PDP for the All
Progressives Grand Alliance.
While Jonathan described Maku’s action
as anti-party, Mark said the former minister was a liar while Ali
described him as an ingrate.
They spoke at the Lafia Township Stadium during the PDP presidential rally.
Jonathan said there was no truth in the former minister’s claim that he (the President) encouraged him to join APGA.
The President said he could not be involved in anti-party activities.
Jonathan said he did not at any time have any discussion with him.
Soldiers Mistakenly open fire on Gov Shettima's convoy
Troops in Maiduguri, Borno State,
‘mistakenly’ opened fire on the convoy of Governor Kashim Shettima as
it approached a military garrison near the airport.
Shettima was on his way to visit
soldiers, who were wounded in the simultenous Boko Haram attacks on
Maiduguri, Monguno and Kodunga when the incident occurred on Monday.
Security sources, according to SaharaReporters,
said the governor’s protocol unit was to blame for the incident as
it failed to notify the military authorities about Shettima’s
intention to visit the military facility on Monday evening.

Ghana pulls down Buhari Jonathan Billboard in Accra
The campaign billboards of two Nigerian
presidential candidates erected in Ghana’s capital, Accra have been
pulled down following an order by the country’s (Ghana) national
security agency.
The billboards of the ruling Peoples
Democratic Party featuring President Goodluck Jonathan, as well as those
of the main opposition All Progressives Congress of Muhammadu Buhari,
located on Accra roads, were pulled down over the weekend by the Accra
Metropolitan Assembly.
Nigerian Military recovers Rocket launcher,APC and other arms from Boko Haram
Gunshots boomed again in Monguno, Borno
State on Monday as troops, backed by fighter jets, launched a major
offensive to recapture the city from militant islamist sect, Boko Haram.
“The operation resumed on Monguno this
(Monday) morning through air bombardment to dislodge the insurgents,” a
Defence Headquarters source told Reuters news agency.
The source made this known as the death
toll from the foiled bid by the sect to capture Maiduguri is believed to
have risen from 65 to 100.
The sect had launched simultaneous
attacks on Maiduguri, Monguno, Kodunga and Gubio on Sunday. While its
fighters were repelled in Maiduguri, Gubio and Kodunga, they overran
Monguno after soldiers who engaged them in gun battle retreated.

Goodnews as Boko haram members on Sunday released 192 out of the 218 people abducted at Katarko town, Gujba local government area of Yobe state.
A prominent politician, Alhaji Goni Katarko who reunites with his family members told our correspondent that the insurgents called them and asked them to pick the captives at Woron yinwa village.
“They were so lucky to get lorry that conveyed them to Gazargana village were we picked them through the aid of military personnel. The military kept them in a camp and pleaded with us to leave them for security reasons”. he saidGoni said he has reunited with four out of his five family members abducted by the group.

Congress Presidential candidate, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has said
her husband, General Buhari, will be guided by provisions of the
Nigerian Constitution in all of his actions.
Mrs. Buhari said this in an interview
with newsmen shortly after the inaugural meeting of APC Women
Presidential Campaign Initiative, in Abuja, on Saturday.
She said if the APC took over government
in May 29, strict adherence to the provisions of the constitution as
well as respect for the human person would be its guiding principle.

National Security Adviser wants Feb 14 Election Postponed
The National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo
Dasuki(retd.), has canvassed the postponement of next month’s elections
to give the Independent National Electoral Commission time to
distribute over 30 million outstanding Permanent Voter Cards to
registered voters.
Dasuki, according to Reuters,
said he had told the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, that a
postponement within the three months allowed by the law, would be a good
idea.

Katsina Government College releases Gen Buhari's Certificate
Online News portal Premium Times has exclusively obtained the secondary school certificate examination results of Gen. Buhari from the Government College, formerly Provincial
Secondary School, Katsina, where he graduated from in 1961. The results,
according to PT, confirms Buhari’s claim that he undertook the
University of Cambridge West African School Certificate Examinations and
obtained five credits in English Language, Geography, Hausa Language,

Gunmen murder pregnant daughter of Gov. Almakura’s campaign manager
Unidentified gunmen have beheaded Mrs.
Amina Suleiman, the daughter of the Director General of Governor of
Nasarawa State, Umaru Tanko Al – Makura’s Campaign Organisation, Mr.
Musa Illu.
It was learnt that the deceased, who was seven months pregnant, was assassinated on Monday in her home in Katsina State.
It was gathered that her husband, Mr. Mohammed Suleiman, was on his way to Zaria at the time of the incident.
Speaking with our correspodent in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, Illu’s younger brother, Namairo Babai, said late Amina was found in a pool of blood.
Bayelsa Youth Vows to disgrace Patience Jonathan in Bayelsa rally
Again, some Bayelsa State youths have
issued a stern warning to the wife of the President, Patience Jonathan,
not to visit the state during the Peoples Democratic Party presidential
rally on February 5.
The youths from Bayelsa creeks, under
the auspices of the Mangrove Boys of Bayelsa, warned on Tuesday that if
the First Lady failed to heed their warning, she would be thoroughly
disgraced and have herself to blame.
The warning came a few days after the
Bayelsa Youth Vanguard issued a similar statement barring Patience from
attending the proposed rally.
Reinforcing the position of the BYV, the creek youths asked Mrs. Jonathan to steer clear of the rally in her own interest.

Boko Haram kidnaps 60 people in Cameroun
In a deadly attack yesterday Sunday, Boko Haram fighters from Nigeria
kidnapped at least 60 people during a new attack in northern Cameroon
in which some people were killed,The Islamist militants “burst into two villages in the Tourou area… They torched houses and left with around 60 people. Most of these people were women and children,” a police officer told AFP, adding that the cross-border attack had “left some people dead” without giving an exact toll.

FG reduces Petrol Price to 87
Federal Government yesterday sunday 18th of Jan announced a reduction in the pump price of petrol by N10 from N97 to N87 per litre.
The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs.
Diezani Alison-Madueke, announced the reduction while briefing State

Nollywood Actor Muna Obiekwe is dead
Actor Muna Obiekwe is dead. He died this evening around 4:15pm in a hospital in Lagos after a battle with kidney failure. He was rushed to the hospital today after he collapsed at his home. Muna has been quietly battling this kidney disease but kept it hush hush from friends and colleagues. So Sad! A colleague said for over two weeks before he died didn't go for his dialysis.
Muna needed money for his health problems but instead of going public to raise money, he told friends he was planning a stage play to raise money but died before he could do it. Unbelievably sad!
