Akon-Men are Natural breeders
Akon who is a known polygamist said in a recent interview that monogamy
is not only 'stupid'; it’s 'impossible.' Read what he said below and
tell us if you agree with him..
"The average guy in the world has a main girl and they got a side chick. And then they got a jumpoff. At the end of the day as a male we are natural breeders by nature. We can’t even escape it if we wanted to.
Let’s say you put 1,000 guys on one corner and one bad chick walk passed. You gon’ see 1,000 heads go, ‘Damn.’ They don’t even know why they doing it. They’re natural breeders. It’s in their genes, they can’t help it. Men are put on this earth to breed and the reason why God put multiple women on this earth is for that.
People are having relationships, boyfriend and girlfriend, and treating it like it’s actually marriage. You’re just dating.
The whole purpose of dating is so you can date this one, and date this one, and date this one until you find out, ‘Okay, this is the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. Okay now, I commit to what’s called marriage.’
You find that one woman that supplies everything that you desire in a woman, of course that will be a motivation to stick with that one woman, but I don’t know no one woman that can satisfy every man’s one need. It’s impossible. Just like there’s no man that can satisfy a woman’s every need. Women just aren’t built to breed like that or… mate with more than one partner. Women aren’t built that way, men are.”

A statement from JAMB Friday in Abuja to announce the early roll out the 2014 UTME application documents indicated that apart from the usual appropriate choice of subjects, candidates will equally be tested on two general subjects to ascertain their levels of appreciation for reading.
“The public is also urged to note that candidates will be tested on two general books to enhance their reading culture irrespective of their choice of course of study.
The books are; The Successor by Jerry Agada and the Potter’s Wheel by Chukwuemeka Ike,” the statement from the head public relations of JAMB, Fabian Benjamin stated.
He noted that the board was determined to provide access to candidates desirous of tertiary education and has begun the sale of application documents into the nation’s tertiary institutions.
Benjamin explained that the early sale of the application form is to enable every Nigerian child desirous of tertiary education have access to the form on time to enable them prepare ahead for the examination slated for April 2014.
According to him, the two modes of tests hitherto conducted by JAMB; the Paper and Pencil Test (PPT) and Computer Based Test (CBT) are still opened to intending and prospective candidates for the 2014 UTME.
“Candidates across the globe who have successfully completed their secondary school education with a minimum of six credits including English Language and Mathematics are expected to obtain the forms at the designated banks and register with the approved cyber cafés across Nigeria and at the Nigeria High Commission Offices in Ghana, United Kingdom (UK), South Africa (SA), Cameroon, Jeddah and Biu.
Candidates are urged to ensure that their data are well captured at the cyber café and their subject choices are accurately entered,” he said.
Also in the statement, the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. ‘Dibu Ojerinde, urged parents, guardians and café operators to ensure that candidates are well guided in the filling of the form to avoid wrong filling and unwholesome practices that may affect their choices.

My driver betreyed me-Ms Hammah
According to the website, Ms Hammah’s brother, Lord Hammah, confirmed the news, describing the development as a betrayal that had worsened divisions within the family.
Lord Hammah reportedly added that he and his junior brother, Paul Hammah, had also been secretly recorded by the same driver.
The said driver, whose name was given only as Lawrence, has since been arrested by the police.
The Public Relations Officer of the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, DSP Freeman Tettey, said a complaint was lodged by Ms Hammah that her driver had secretly recorded her.
Ms Hammah was sacked Friday morning by President John Mahama after the emergence of a tape, in which a voice purported to be hers is heard saying she would stay in politics until she has made $1m.
“If you have money then you can control people,” she said on the tape which has gone viral on the internet, and is the subject of media discussions across the country.
She is also heard making derogatory remarks about Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Rachel Appoh, whom she accused of instigating quarrels with her superior, the substantive minister.
Ms Hammah also claimed to have heard that Nana Oye Lithur, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, played a fundamental role in securing a favourable verdict for President Mahama in the recently-concluded election petition hearing.

Enyeama remained unbeaten
Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama continued his inspiring run in the French club, Lille on Saturday night as they forced hosts Guingamp to a goalless draw at a rain soaked Stade du Roudourou.
It was the former Maccabi Tel Aviv safest pair of hand’s 13th league appearance for René Girard's side as he thwarted clear-cut chances by the hosts to secure maximum points against his injury-depleted team.
One of his biggest highlight of the night was a brilliant save in the 60th minute off Mustapha Yatabaré's header following a cross whipped by Reynald Lemaître from the left hand side of Lille’s defence before blocking Fatih Atik's attempt to break the deadlock.
Last weekend, Enyeama had kept out Radamel Falcao and his team-mates time and again when his club hosted AS Monaco in a week 12 encounter.
The last time he conceded a goal was against Nice which they lost 2-0 at home in a week 5 encounter. Lille are currently second with 27 points on the French league table.
PSG keeper Salvatore Sirigu holds the record in the French Ligue 1 for the longest time without conceding a goal. His record lasted from November 17, 2012 to February 8, 2013.

ASUU strike-More units supports suspension
National President, ASUU, Nasir Issa-Faggae
The week long ASUU strike may come to an end this week as more units of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, including the University of Ibadan and Ahmadu Bello University chapters, have voted for the suspension of the strike by the union during chapter congresses held nationwide.
The union met with a Federal Government team led by President Goodluck Jonathan last Tuesday in Abuja.
Government has promised to inject N220bn yearly into the public universities for the next five years.
The ASUU leadership, after briefing the zonal coordinators on the offer, had directed the local branches to organise congress meetings between Friday last week and Tuesday (today).
This is to enable all the lecturers to make input into the action the union would take after its NEC meeting on Thursday.
As at press time on Monday, 20 of the 28 chapters that had concluded their meetings supported the suspension of the strike, while the remaining eight preferred that the varsity teachers pressed on with the strike.
The teachers in the University of Abuja, for instance, supported the suspension of the strike but listed conditions that must be met by the Federal Government.
A source at the meeting on Monday said the congress demanded that the withheld three months salaries of the lecturers must be paid.
“Members also demanded for commitment on funding. We also want assurance from government that no lecturer will be victimised on the account of participating in the strike. We also asked that the template for sharing the earned allowance should be prepared within the next two weeks,” the source added.
The conditions were the same for Nasarawa State University, which voted for continuation of the strike.
Chairman of ASUU in the school, Dr. Theophilus Lagi, told our correspondent after the congress that as far as his members were concerned the strike should continue.
He said, “There are certain grey areas that must be cleared. The ‘no work no pay’ policy must be sorted out. Government must pay lecturers the arrears.
“We also need evidence that the N200bn that government promised to release this year is in the central bank. We are not going to suspend the strike until the money is there and available for sourcing. That is the position of the congress.
“Nobody trusts government. They have been making promises since 2009 and nothing has been implemented except the N30bn earned allowances.
“Secondly, the 2009 agreement is due for review; nothing has been said about that. Lecturers have been denied salary for three months, those monies must be paid.”
Among the universities that supported that the strike be called off are Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; Federal University of Technology, Minna; University of Lagos; University of Ibadan; University of Calabar; University of Port-Harcourt; Federal University of Technology, Akure; Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto; and Ekiti State University.
The list also include the Federal University of Technology, Owerri; Delta State University; Bayero University Kano; Imo State University; Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta; and Olabisi Onabanjo University, among others.
On the other hand, majority of lecturers at the University of Benin; and University of Jos wanted the strike to continue.
However, in the Bauchi zone of the union, five universities voted for continuation of the state strike, while the remaining three threw their weight against the continuation of the strike.

Tinubu to complete abandoned NLS hostel
Asiwaju Bola Hamed Tinubu, is to complete the 24-year-old uncompleted 1,000 capacity hostel of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School.
The Deputy Director-General of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School, Mrs Toun Adebiyi, said this on Monday after the campus’ version of the 50th Anniversary Lecture and Celebration of the Nigerian Law School.
Five other campuses of the NLS in Abuja, Enugu, Yenagoa, Yola, Kano are to mark the anniversary locally ahead of the grand finale, which is to hold in Aabuja campus on November 27.
Adebiyi, who spoke with journalists after the lecture on Monday, said the project, which was about 80 per cent complete when it was abandoned 24 years ago, would go a long way in resolving the accommodation problems on the campus when completed.
Tinubu, who was said to be attending the first year remembrance of the late former governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Lam Adeshina, in Ibadan, was represented at the NLS event by the National Legal Adviser of the APC, Dr. Muiz Banire.
Adebiyi said though she could not tell when exactly the Tinubu’s intervention in the hostel project would start, she was however sure that it was going to be soon.
She said, “It was what we took to him (Tinubu) when we met him over the needs of the campus and he promised to help out. The project was 80 per cent complete when it was abandoned. I was so happy when he promised to do it for us. I know it is going to be soon.”
Earlier, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), had during the event, called on stakeholders to invest in the Nigerian Law School as an enduring legacy of all legal practitioners.

Adamu Tanko Maikarfi
Maikarfi who sounded fearless on the phone said, “It is true that they came wanting to kill me in my brother’s home. They got tips that I was there; when they came they did not meet me, after they searched all the rooms holding everyone at gunpoint. I will rebuild PDP.......Oyinlola
A statement by NPDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze said the members would storm the PDP National Secretariat next Monday, November 11th, for Prince Oyinlola’s swearing in, and urged the PDP National Legal Adviser Mr. Victor Kwom not to delay it.
Of the court victory, the statement said, “This is just one of the anomalies we have been complaining of that came about due to lack of internal democracy in our party occasioned by the undemocratic elements that hijacked the structure of our party and we are relying so much on the Judiciary to help us in addressing other anomalies that gave rise to our present struggle and restore hope back to our party.”
NPDP expressed the hope that very soon, its other court cases asking for the dissolution of the Tukur-led NWC would be given the same serious attention to enable them formally take over the reins of the party and restore it to the path of honour, justice and democratic norms which Tukur and his cohorts have bastardised.
“We wish to assure PDP faithful and all lovers of democracy that the cat with nine lives, Prince (Barr.) Olagunsoye Oyinlola is ready and determined to do the great work of rebuilding our great party. The sacking of the entire illegal NWC is, however, necessary so as to create room for the replacement of the current membership with patriotic party leaders who would join Prince Oyinlola in rebuilding the party, which has suffered so much in the hands of Tukur and his co-travellers.”
It expressed its sympathy with the former National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo, who it said achieved the unenviable record as the shortest reigning PDP National Secretary since the formation of the party.
It also advised the PDP National Legal Adviser Mr. Victor Kwom to “stop further study of a judgement which was very clear even to a layman” and set in motion the machinery for the immediate swearing in of Prince Oyinlola next Monday as he is in a hurry to start the rebuilding of the party.
“The National Legal Adviser who saw to Prof Wale Oladipo swearing in within 24 hours after his own court victory should apply the same treatment to the authentic National Secretary of PDP and stop portraying our party as a lawless party by attempting to delay his swearing in ceremony in obedience to a court ruling aimed at repositioning our party,” the statement said.
“As we commend and congratulate Prince Oyinlola for this feat, we urge him not to be corrupted by the undemocratic toxic that may have been dropped in his office by Prof. Oladipo as many Nigerians look up to him to not only to restore hope to the PDP but to also use his magic wand to unify the party. We are happy of sending him back to the Wadata Plaza in advance as our present day John the Baptist to prepare and to announce to the world of our arrival as the authentic NWC of our great party within the next few weeks.”
Arsenal didn’t deserve to beat Dortmund-Lewandowski
Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski says Arsenal didn’t deserve to beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 in their Champions League clash on Wednesday night.
Last year’s finalists created a number of
chances to break the deadlock, but failed to find the net and were
eventually made to pay for its profligacy as Aaron Ramsey helped the
Premier League side to a hard-fought victory.
“We should never have lost this game, but
it’s too late for that now,” Lewandowski, 25, told reporters. “We had
plenty of time to put it right, but now we’re left with two games and
six points needed to win.
“Sometimes football is like that. We had
three or four good chances but didn’t score. They had just the one and
scored. In the end, all that counts is the result. We have to beat
Napoli now.”
Dortmund currently sits third in Group F
with six points from four games, trailing joint-leader Arsenal and
Napoli by three points.
How I sold Pasuma's Jeep for N950,000
Adegoke

| credits: File copy
Kasali Adegoke, the leader of the armed robbery gang that robbed popular fuji musician, Wasiu Alabi aka Pasuma, of his 2006 Range Rover Sport, says he sold the vehicle for N950,000.
A search on the Internet by our
correspondent, however, suggested that used version of the vehicle sells
for N3.5m, while a new one costs between N8m and N9m.
The 32-year-old, who is currently in
detention at the Special Anti Robbery Squad, Ogun State, said he sold
the car to a receiver at Cotonou.
He said, “I have a receiver at Cotonou
who usually calls to place orders for any type of vehicle that he wants.
Before we stole Pasuma’s car, my buyer had already told me that he
wanted a Range Rover Sport. We were just on the lookout for possible
victims when we noticed Pasuma’s car.”
Although based in Ogun State, Adegoke said he usually comes to Lagos to steal choice vehicles.
On the night Pasuma was robbed, Adegoke
said he was merely roaming the Ahamddiya area of Lagos along with some
members of his gang when the musician was sighted.
PUNCH Metro had on May 29 2013, reported that a nine-man gang attacked the fuji artiste around 9pm, while he was on his way to a show.
Pasuma, who was dispossessed of other
valuables in addition to his car, was said to have hidden his face from
the robbers while the ordeal lasted. He was dumped in a bush near Ota,
Ogun State after being stripped down to his underwear.
Adegoke said, “While he was with us, we
had no idea that he was Pasuma. We did not recognise him. It was the
next day that we realised that it was Pasuma car we snatched the
previous night when the news was all over town.
“By that time, the car was already in
Cotonou. We drove it that same night to a border town in Ogun State
where one of the receiver’s boys was waiting to drive it back to Cotonu.
We were paid N950,000.”
Despite a deformed left hand, Adegoke confessed to having killed over seven policemen during his six-year career as a robber.
The police added that his eight man gang had killed over 20 people.
“I was badly burned as a baby; I was
just 13 days old when someone threw a burning material through the
window on my bed. By the time I was rescued, the left side of my face
and my left hand were badly burned.
“Despite the handicap, I was able to
master the art of shooting with an assault rifle. I would rest the gun
on the ground while I loaded it and would support it with my deformed
hand while I shot,” he said.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police
Mr. IKemefuna Okoye, had last Monday, paraded Adegoke along with three
other suspects in Abeokuta.
Led by the SARS Officer-in-Charge,
Mohammed Tijani, Adegoke was reportedly arrested in the Obele area, a
border town between Nigeria and Benin Republic. He was said to have been
critically injured in a shoot out with the police.
Adegoke reportedly led the SARS team to arrest other members of his gang at their hideout in the Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos State.
Okoye had said that the gang members had
confessed to killing the former South West Coordinator and Ogun State
Commander of the Vehicle Inspection Officer, Mr. Yomi Bamgbose, in 2011,
as well as the killing of five policemen attached to the Quick Response
Squad at the Ijemo Agbadu and Mowe/Ibafo areas one year ago.
The gang was also said to have allegedly
killed about 11 policemen in Kwara and Lagos states and were
responsible for the death of five policemen in the Imeko area of Ogun
State, in a bullion van attack in September 2011.
They were also said to be responsible
for the killing of four members of the Ogun State Vigilance Service and
three filling station attendants in Ifo last June.

Governor Chime should release his wife from illegal custody-Femi Falana
Femi Falana (SAN)
“I wish to say, without any fear of contradiction, that I have her instructions in writing to challenge her illegal detention at the Government House, Enugu,” he declared in a statement on Wednesday. “Through the assistance of some of the security personnel in the Government House she has since spoken to me on phone to confirm her instructions. Indeed, Mrs Chime's mother and her personal physician have also been in touch with me urging me to take all appropriate measures to secure her freedom from Governor Chime's illegal confinement.”
Beyond that, Mr. Falana pointed out that contrary to the governor’s diversionary statement, he does not need the instructions of citizens who are illegally detained to demand for their release.
“Without any instructions I am duty bound to file cases in court to secure the enforcement of the fundamental rights of detainees to personal liberty. For the avoidance of doubt, the doctrine of locus standi in the area of human rights has been abolished by the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009 which came into force on December 1, 2009,” he said.
Mr. Falana noted that at the press conference Governor Chime succeeded in confirming the allegation that he has held his wife in illegal custody but attempted to justify the illegality by alleging that his wife has "a medical challenge".
Said the statement: “When Governor Chime was recently medically challenged he was not subjected to solitary confinement in the Government House but flown abroad for adequate medical treatment,” the lawyer said. “But Mr Chime has conspired with his private physicians to sentence his wife to unwarranted mental torture and psychological trauma in a room in the Government House for the past four months. If Mr. Chime's claim is correct that the wife is non compos mentis, when was the Enugu Government House converted to a psychiatric hospital?
“Having confirmed the allegation that he has willfully infringed the fundamental rights of his wife to personal liberty, dignity of the person and freedom of movement Governor Chime should release his wife from illegal custody [and] be warned not to divert attention from the brutal abuse of the rights of his wife. If he and his doctors are convinced that she is medically challenged they should send her to a hospital for quick recovery!”
Mr. Falana thanked the Director-General of the State Security Service who, he said, has directed the security service personnel attached to the Government House to desist from teaming up with the Governor to hold his wife hostage.

Soldiers Fire On Suspected Ombatse Members, Kill Four
The officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the shooting occurred at a checkpoint in Lafia, the Nassarawa State capital. He claimed that the soldiers fired in self-defense when the cult members attempted to attack the soldiers manning a checkpoint.
“We are yet to get a full report from the unit that carried out the action,” said the officer. He added: “Our preliminary report is that they [suspected Ombatse members] were mobilizing to attack our men at a checkpoint. Our men opened fire on them and killed four of them. We are still waiting for the full report.”
A resident of Lafia confirmed the killings, but said he was not certain about the identity of the casualties. “We heard gun shots and some of our people saw the corpses by the road side, but I cannot confirm their identities,” he said.
Our military source disclosed that more soldiers had been drafted to the checkpoint

(health) Breaking through cancer’s shield
For
more than a century, researchers were puzzled by the uncanny ability of
cancer cells to evade the immune system. They knew cancer cells were
grotesquely abnormal and should be killed by white blood cells. In the
laboratory, in Petri dishes, white blood cells could go on the attack
against cancer cells. Why, then, could cancers survive in the body?
The answer, when it finally came in
recent years, arrived with a bonus: a way to thwart a cancer’s strategy.
Researchers discovered that cancers wrap themselves in an invisible
protective shield. And they learned that they could break into that
shield with the right drugs.
When the immune system is free to
attack, cancers can shrink and stop growing or even disappear in lucky
patients with the best responses. It may not matter which type of cancer
a person has. What matters is letting the immune system do its job.
So far, the drugs have been tested and
found to help patients with melanoma, kidney and lung cancer. In
preliminary studies, they also appear to be effective in breast cancer,
ovarian cancer and cancers of the colon, stomach, head and neck, but not
the prostate.
It is still early, of course, and
questions remain. Why do only some patients respond to the new
immunotherapies? Can these responses be predicted? Once beaten back by
the immune system, how long do cancers remain at bay?
Still, researchers think they are seeing the start of a new era in cancer medicine.
“Amazing,” said Dr. Drew Pardoll, the
immunotherapy research director at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
This period will be viewed as an inflection point, he said, a moment in
medical history when everything changed.
“A game-changer,” said Dr. Renier J. Brentjens, a leukemia specialist at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
“A watershed moment,” said his
colleague, Dr. Michel Sadelain. (Both say they have no financial
interests in the new drugs; Pardoll says he holds patents involving some
immunotherapy drugs, but not the ones mentioned in this article.)
Researchers and companies say they are
only beginning to explore the new immunotherapies and develop others to
attack cancers, like prostate, that seem to use different molecules to
evade immune attacks. They are at the earliest stages of combining
immunotherapies with other treatments in a bid to improve results.
“I want to be very careful that we do
not overhype and raise patients’ expectations so high that we can never
meet them,” said Dr. Alise Reicin, a vice president at Merck for
research and development.
But the companies have an incentive to
speed development of the drugs. They are expected to be expensive, and
the demand huge. Delays of even a few months mean a huge loss of
potential income.
Nils Lonberg, a senior vice president at
Bristol-Myers Squibb, notes that immunotherapy carries a huge advantage
over drugs that attack mutated genes. The latter approach all but
invites the cancer to escape, in the same way bacteria develop
resistance to antibiotics.
By contrast, immunotherapy drugs are
simply encouraging the immune system to do what it is meant to do; it is
not going to adapt to evade the drugs.
“We are hoping to set up a fair fight between the immune system and the cancer,” Lonberg said.
The story of the new cancer treatments
started with the discovery of how cancers evade attacks. It turned out
that they use the body’s own brakes, which normally shut down the immune
system after it has done its job killing virus-infected cells.
One braking system, for example, uses a
molecule, PD-1, on the surface of T-cells of the immune system. If a
target cell has molecules known as PD-L1 or PD-L2 on its surface, the
T-cell cannot attack it.
So some cancer cells drape themselves in
those molecules. The effect, when T-cells are near, is like turning off
a light switch. The T-cells just shut down.
Cancers that do not use PD-L1 or PD-L2
are thought to use other similar systems, just starting to be explored.
Body systems have a lot of redundancy to tamp down immune attacks. But
for now, the PD system showed researchers how cancer cells can evade
destruction.

Tello is even better than Cristiano-Zubizarreta
The debate over the world's top player has taken a
bizarre twist with the Barcelona director of football's extraordinary
assessment of Lionel Messi's great rival
Andoni Zubizarreta fanned the flames of football's most heated player rivalry with a cheeky swipe at Cristiano Ronaldo in the wake of Barcelona's 3-1 win against AC Milan.Barcelona's director of football was delighted with the return to form of Lionel Messi - who scored two goals to end a barren run - and could not resist a putdown of the Argentine's great rival.
Asked about the Messi-Ronaldo debate over who is the world's top player, Zubizarreta insisted the Ballon d'Or holder is peerless but also claimed that even reserve forward Cristian Tello is superior to Real Madrid's star player.
"In this game, we saw Messi's character, he is working so good and knows that he has our confidence," Zubizarreta told Spanish TV station Canal +.
"Messi is the best of the world but, for me, Tello is even better than Cristiano, any FC Barcelona player is better for me."
After his side qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League at Camp Nou, Zubizarreta also spoke of their development as a team under new coach Gerardo Martino.
"We know where we are going with him," added the former Spain goalkeeper. "We will be still playing with our own style.
"At Barcelona to win is not just okay, we have also to play well. This is what this jersey means. Martino knows it and he is adapting very well."
Ronaldo recently received an apology from Fifa president Sepp Blatter for disparaging remarks made about him in appearance at Oxford University.

(SPORT) We’re obviously capable of beating Arsenal-Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney
Wayne
Rooney believes that Manchester United’s extensive experience of
beating Arsenal will stand the club in good stead for Sunday’s clash
with the Premier League leader.
The Red Devils are eight points behind
the Gunners after a poor start to their title defence, but the team is
now unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions.
Consequently, Rooney is confident that his side can go some way to bridging the gap at Old Trafford.
“We’re obviously capable of beating Arsenal – we’ve done it many times in the past,” the England international told Goal.com.
“They’re on a good run of form at the moment and are top of the league, so we know it’s going to be a difficult game.
“But we have to go into that game confident, believing we can edge closer to them and bring ourselves back into the mix.”
Although Arsene Wenger’s side has been in
impressive form, having not lost in the league since the opening day,
Rooney is hesitant to mark the club down as the title favourite.
“We’ll have to wait and see where they
are in March,” the 28-year-old remarked. “We’ve seen before that they’ve
been in the top two until February and March and then they’ve faded
off, so it’s down to them to try to stay there. They’re doing
brilliantly at the minute and they’re in a great position so it’s up to
us to catch them.
“We know we’re capable of playing better
and we’re starting to do that. We need to start picking points up and
see where we are come Christmas. We’re nine or 10 games in so there’s no
big worry at the minute. We’re starting to do well so, if we can get
the victory on Sunday, I think we’ll be in a great position.”
The Red Devils have already drawn at home
to Chelsea and Southampton, and lost to Liverpool, Manchester City and
West Brom so far this season, but a win on Sunday would put them within
five points of the top of the table.

TFG donates $30,000 to Kanu Heart Foundation
Nwankwo Kanu
As
part of efforts to help Nigerians suffering from heart-related
diseases, Dubai based Property Company, The First Group, has donated
$30,000 to the Kanu Heart Foundation.
The donation was made in Lagos on Tuesday at the KHF secretariat in Ikeja.
The Chief Operating Officer, TFG, Rob
Burns, while presenting the cheque to CEO, KHF, Onyebuchi Abia,
described the man behind the foundation and Nigerian football legend,
Nwankwo Kanu, as a ‘passionate person.’
Burns said, “Kanu is a very generous
person and this something that is very dear to his heart and also
something that he is very passionate about. When you see him at the
foundation talking to the children, you will see that this is something
that actually means a lot to him.
“He’s been doing everything he can to
raise money but it is very expensive to send children overseas for their
operations. We see what he is doing with KHF as a very important step
to helping humanity. We are very happy to identify with him.”
Burns, who also made a special
presentation to one of the heart patients, 29-year-old Chukwuma Okeke
from Anambra State, called on ‘successful Nigerians’ to contribute to
the worthy cause.
Atlanta ’96 Olympic Games medallist Kanu
said he was grateful for the support. He however stated that the
foundation could have done better but for unfulfilled promises.
He said, “It’s been a fantastic
relationship (between TFG and KHF) and they have also partnered the
foundation. Yearly, they come to our aid by helping the kids on the
waiting list.
“What they’ve done is fantastic and I am
very grateful for them helping us to save souls. But our progress has
been slow because a lot of people have promised us heaven on earth but
we are still chasing them around. So we have employed other means to
help these affected kids. We have started a lottery where you can buy
N100 ticket and win a car. It’s not about winning but about helping.”

Osun airport would be ready in May 2014
Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola
Aeronautical
Engineering and Technical Services, the company handling the
construction of MKO International Airport, Ido Osun, in Osun State, has
said that the airport will have the longest runway in the country by
the time it is completed.
The Project Supervisor of the company,
Mr. Abubakar Abuyaro, said this while conducting Governor Rauf
Aregbesola round the airport on Tuesday.
He stated that the airport was being built to accommodate Boeing 737 series and other big aircraft.
While assuring the governor that the airport would be ready in May 2014, Abuyaro said the runway would be 3.5 kilometres long.
With 3.5 kilometres runway, the airport
under construction beats the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and
the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja in terms of the length
of the runway.
According to Abuyaro, the length of the runway of an airport determines the aircraft the airport can accommodate.
Abuyaro said, “50 per cent of the
earthwork on the runway, which is the most important part of the job,
has been achieved. Rainy season is gradually coming to an end.
“As soon as rainfall subsides, work will
definitely go at a high speed in the airport, which after completion,
is going to be one of the best airports in the country.”
Aregbesola commended the company for its diligence to work and urge the workers not to fail.
The governor had earlier visited the
East By-pass Road where he inspected one of the major bridges still
under construction in an effort to ensure that contractors handling
various projects in the state carry out quality jobs and complete the
projects at the stipulated time.
The project being handled by a Turkish
company, Slava Yeditepe, is to complete the circle of rings around the
state capital and ensure no traffic bottlenecks are created as the state
capital witnesses rapid developments.
