36Year Old man Arrested with 107 ATM Cards at Lagos Airport

A 36-year old Nigerian, with two different international passports, has been arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, western Nigeria, with 107 Citi Bank credit cards, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA said in a statement on Saturday.
NDLEA said it arrested Funsho Oladimeji Babatunde with the automated teller machine cards concealed inside a luggage during the outward screening of Turkish Airline passengers to Istanbul, Turkey.
The agency airport commander, Hamza Umar, said that the suspect had two international passports bearing his photographs but with different names.

The tide of party defection isn't anywhere near over as 16 Local Govt Chairmen and 194 Councillors  have defected to the ruling opposition party, the All Progressive Congress, APC. The defectees were elected on the platform of PDP.

Announcing their defection today, the Chairman, ALGON, Kwara State chapter (under whose aegis they announced their defection) Mr. Abdulateef Okandeji said failure of the national leaders of the PDP to listen to their grievances is the main reason for their defection.

Why I refused to run Against my Boss in 2003-Says Atiku Abubakar

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday adduced reasons he refused to run against former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003.

He said he declined the invitation, which would have made him to contest for the presidential ticket of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, on moral grounds.

Atiku, who was responding to a remark from one of the participants in his South-West consultative meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State on Thursday,  noted that contrary to the notion that his best chance to have become the president of the country was in 2003-when stakeholders in the PDP offered him the opportunity to contest against Obasanjo – he still found it difficult to accept the offer because doing so would be going against the position the PDP had earlier taken at a caucus meeting to retain the presidency in the South.

Igbo Deportees Demands N1bn Compensation from Lagos State Govt

Channels Reports that the suit filed by over 80 Igbo ‘deportees’ against the Lagos State Government came up on Thursday at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, with the plaintiffs demanding a compensation of 1 billion Naira (about 6.3 million dollars) .

Seven plaintiffs filed the suit on behalf of 66 others and they are jointly seeking the compensation from the Lagos State government as general damages for breach of their rights.

The seven plaintiffs are; Joseph Aniebonam, Osondu Mbuto, Osondu Agwu, Nnenna Ogbonna, Emily Okoroariri, Friday Ndukwe and Onyeka Ugwu.

This was how the Catholic Bishop of Yola, Mamza   Stephen, captured the calamity that befell worshippers  at a Catholic church in Waga Chakawa in Adamawa State when Boko Haram insurgents struck on Sunday morning.

Stephen  told the  British Broadcasting Corporation that he heard from the survivors that insurgents   arrived the village  on trucks and locked the church “towards the end of the service.”

According to him, the  militants set off bombs, before burning houses and taking residents hostage during  the  four-hour siege.

JNC Ondo State Branch Closed Down Gtbank in Akure, Disrupt Business Transaction

Industrial workers under the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC) Ondo State on Tuesday shut down business activities at the headquarters branch of the Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) on Alagbaka Road in Akure, the state capital.
The workers, chanting solidarity songs, were protesting non-payment of their salaries.  They also alleged sabotage of their efforts by the officers of the bank.
They said that GTB, without the knowledge of the state government, had withheld their salaries with the intention of using the money to defray its loans.
