 The celebrity designer, Durojaiye Owolabi, is the owner of Mood’deo International. in a chat with Punch Saturday Beats, he says most of the celebrities seen on television in Nigeria like wearing cheap clothes or clothes given to them for free. According to Owolabi, when he started his business, he expected that he would make it big being a celebrity designer but was shocked when he realized that some of the big names in the industry wanted free clothes and they always delayed in paying him for his services.

Excerpts:

“I see entertainers as celebrities. They dictate what goes on in the fashion world. I see them as people that have made it, rich and affluent and whatever they put on has to be the best.  

When I started my outfit, being a celebrity designer is what I targeted because abroad, celebrities are the people that would help you showcase your work. I decided I would
work with a few of them but I was shocked because most of these celebrities like cheap things.

Enemies in the comedy industry want to run me down-Says Klint da Drunk

In an interview with Punch recently, popular comedian Klint Da Drunk alleged that his colleagues are trying to run him down, peddling rumours that his love for computer game is the reason he hasn't gone far in his comedy career

"Now they say I would have gone far in my career if not for my love for computer games. It is this same set of comedians that went around telling people that I live in Abuja so that I will not be getting Lagos shows. My colleagues want to run me down, let them feel free. It is because they are afraid of me; they feel that if they run me down I won’t survive it. I am a gadget lover, that is the truth. Everyone knows that whenever I walk into a gadget shop the people there want me to educate them about some of their gadgets. Isn’t it better that I am a sucker for video games than a sucker for smoking igbo, marijuana?” he asks

On his relationship with other comedians, Klint said "They have cliques but that does not bother me because it doesn’t affect my career. God still chases away flies for a tailless cow. So, I'm not complaining".

Boko Haram kills scores of students going to write JAMB in Borno State

Scores of students travelling to write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in Borno State have been reportedly killed by the Boko Haram sect.

They were among several persons that lost their lives in multiple attacks unleashed by the dreaded sect in four communities.

The Senator representing Borno Central in the Senate, Zannah Ahmed, on Friday, accused the military of complicity in Thursday attack on part of troubled Borno State where he claimed that 210 people were killed in attacks on four towns.

The towns included Dikwa, Kala Balge, Gambulga and Gwoza.

Amnesty International urges SSS to disclose the Whereabout of @Ciaxon's

Amnesty International urged the Nigerian security forces Friday to disclose the whereabouts of a man who was arrested after tweeting pictures of an attempted jail break at the headquarters of the intelligence agency.
“Nigerian security forces should immediately disclose the whereabouts and legal status of Yusuf Siyaka Onimisi,” said the rights group’s Netsanet Belay in a statement.
“If he is in detention, the Nigerian authorities must either charge him with a recognisable criminal offence or release him immediately,” Amnesty said.
The attempted jail break at the headquarters of the Directorate of State Services on March 30 sparked a gun battle that killed 21 detainees, the intelligence agency said.

Pregnant woman and 4 others die of electrocution in Lagos

It was a sad day yesterday April 10th for residents of Onabanjo street in Oworonsoki, Lagos, as some of their neighbors including a pregnant woman simply identified as Mrs Ameh and her daughter were electrocuted by a live wire.

According to a Punch report, a heavy downpour in the early hours of yesterday morning resulted in the collapse of an electric pole that still had electricity running in it. The pole and its cables fell in front of a building on the street resulting in massive fire which was sparked by stored fuel inside one of the cars parked in front of the building. As the fire began to spread, residents of the building started running out of their house to save themselves from the fire, only to step on electric cables still running with electricity. 5 people, including 3 children were electrocuted, while two cars were burnt.

A 14 year old child bride who was forced into marriage in Kano last week, has reportedly killed her new husband and three of his friends with rat poison.
Wasila Umaru was forced to marry to 35 year old Umaru Sani sometime last week. During the small wedding which took place in the northern Ungwar Yansoro village, at Gaya LGA near the city of Kano, the reluctant bride allegedly slipped rat poison into a rice dish that was eaten by the groom and some of his friends.

Boko Haram kills 5-Policemen,bomb bank,Court and Police station in Jigawa State

Boko Haram members on wednesday April 9th bombed a police station, a bank and a Sharia Court in Gwaram Sabuwa, Gwaram LGA of Jigawa State killing at least 4 policemen, one civilian, with quite a number of others sustaining various degrees of injury.

According to eye witnesses, the men, who were about 20 in number and came in motorcycles and other vehicles, operated from 1am to 2am unhindered. They later told the villagers that they would be back again if they continue sending their children to school, operating football viewing centres and  accepting polio vaccines. Continue..

CAUGHT IN THE ACT! 31yr Old woman caught stealing baby through the window in Ogun state

  Mrs. Adebisi Adanri, 29, who lives with her husband at 21, Ademola Coker Street, Alagbole, Ogun State, said she was woken up by the cry of her daughter in the hands of the suspect around 4.a.m.

“She was trying to run away when my husband ran after her and caught her. I raised an alarm to draw neighbours’ attention to the incident and everybody came out to assist us,” Mrs. Adanri narrated.

She disclosed further that the suspect got into her house by tearing the window net.

“She picked up the baby as she was sleeping on the bed by the window and stole N5,000 kept in a purse,” she added.

But in her statement to the police, Blessing, who said she was homeless, denied stealing the baby and the money.

Federal University of Petroleum Resources Delta students on rampage

 

Students of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effrum, Delta State went on rampage in the early hours of yesterday, disrupting vehicular traffic along the major roads in the university community. The angry students are said to be protesting the incessant robbery attacks on them by suspected villagers. The latest attack may have led to the death of a 500 level mechanical engineering student who was allegedly attacked last night and robbed of his valuables before he was shot in the head. Meanwhile, soldiers and other security operatives have taken control of the escalating situation there.

Female delegate slumps at the ongoing National conference

 

A female delegate, Ezenwa Ifeanyinwa, on Wednesday slumped at the National Conference, shortly after the resumption of the afternoon session Premium Times reports.

Mrs. Ifeanyinwa, a representative of the Market Women Association, was returning from lunch break and was heading towards the plenary chamber when she suddenly fainted.

The ailing female delegate was immediately assisted by security agents, including operatives from the State Security Service, SSS, and the National Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC before a doctor was brought in to revive her.

Nigerian man invades Burkingham Palace demanding to see the Queen

 On Friday April 4th, 23yr old Tosin Odunaiya (pictured right), a Nigerian living illegally in England tried to invade Buckingham Palace, seeking to see the Queen.

Tosin, who came alone, told the guards who stopped him in front of the palace, that the queen would welcome and help him as he is finding it hard to return to Nigeria. When the guards told him to step, Tosin started a shouting match with the guards, resulting in one armed soldier intervening & pointing his gun at Tosin.

Pres Jonathan postpones campaign rally for Ayo-Fayose

President Goodluck Jonathan’s one-day campaign visit to Ekiti State, western Nigeria, scheduled for 8 April has been postponed.
The President was initially billed to inaugurate the campaign of his party’s governorship candidate, Mr Ayo Fayose.
The Director-General of Ayo Fayose Campaign team, Chief Dipo Anisulowo, and the State Publicity Secretary of PDP, Pastor Kola Oluwole disclosed this at a news conference on Sunday.
They claimed the postponement was caused by the refusal of Ekiti State government to approve the usage of Ado-Ekiti Stadium, a claim denied by the Ekiti state government.

Ogun state biznessman shot dead in the church during service

We don't need any priest to preach to us that we are already witnessing the END TIME, Pandemonium struck this morning in the western Nigerian city of Ijebu-Igbo in Ijebu North local government area of Ogun State when 10 gunmen stormed a church and shot dead a 70 year-old man.
The assailants killed the popular furniture maker, Otunba Tola Okuneye,a.k.a. Ajagajigi.
The 10 men arrived the church in two vehicles and fired shots on the man’s head.
The incident occurred at the St.John Anglican Church,Oke-Sopen,Ijebu-Igbo.

Nigerian army storms Mowo community in Lagos over missing gun

Yesterday, it was a near action film for the residents as the unidentified soldiers stormed the community.
A drunk soldier from Ibereko Barracks, along Badagry Express road lost his gun in a beer parlour at Mowo Bus stop last week. So in a bid to recover the stolen weapon, the Soldiers decided to subject every able bodied men in the community to torture and harassment.
The Soldiers, an eye witness said suspected a man currently at large to have stolen the gun.
The suspect’s father was said to have been arrested and questioned on the whereabouts of his son. He was later left off the hook when elders of the community intervened.

The mother of Nollywood’s ‘bad boy’ actor, Jim Iyke, has died, according to reports. Jim’s mother passed away on Monday, April 1 in Abuja, Nigeria.
Nigerian entertainment news website, Nigeriafilms.com quoted a close family source as saying: “Yes, Jim Iyke’s mother is dead, but she didn’t die on April 1 as it is being widely reported. The old woman died last Monday in Abuja.”

LASU Fee: Governor Fashola Proposes Reduction In School Fees

 

A protracted crisis at the Lagos State University over fee hikes that have outraged students and led to protests reached another juncture on friday with Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos State proposing a reduction of tuition.

Mr. Fashola made the proposal during a meeting on friday with the protesting students. The students, under the auspices of Education Rights Campaign (ERC), are demanding full reversal of the hiked fee. They have staged several rallies and protests to press their case.

At the meeting, Mr. Fashola offered to reduce, rather than reverse, the hiked fee. He teased the students and members of the ERC to consult among themselves and propose an acceptable reduction.

After the meeting, some of the student executives in the ERC told SaharaReporters that, even though they would hold meetings and consult with other activist groups, they remain committed to fighting for a total reversal.
