Politician with their politirika ideas hmmm Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, has disclosed to members of staff of the
Assembly that he would run for the 2015 governorship election in the
state because God told him to do so.
Ikuforiji, who
spoke with the members of staff during a quarterly general meeting
within the Assembly complex at the weekend, said he was seeking to
contest for the governorship post under the umbrella of his party, the
All Progressives Congress, APC.
The meeting is usually organised by the leadership of the House for interaction with the staff.
The
Speaker said he had consulted with God and that God had asked him to
move on in his bid to be the next governor of the state.
“I have called on God concerning my ambition and He has given me the approval to go ahead,” he disclosed.
His announcement got the staff members at the meeting cheering and prodding him on.
Ikuforiji,
who would be Speaker for about 11 years by 2015, also disclosed that he
had consulted widely with stakeholders, opinion leaders and his
colleagues.
The Speaker recently met with members of
the State House of Assembly at his official residence at the GRA area of
Ikeja, Lagos where he made similar announcement.
At
the weekend meeting, Ikuforiji asserted that he had succeeded in
establishing a virile legislative house, promising to build a state
where people would be happy.
According to him, “what I
am doing is to inform you of my intention. When the time comes, I will
do so (announce my intention) and the whole of Lagos will know I did
so.”
The Speaker, who commended the management and
staff of the Assembly for their professionalism and sense of duty,
further thanked them for standing by him to develop the legislature in
the state.
