senate president,boycotted the elections alongside other senators..
Lawan in his acceptance speech thanked those who voted but said, he was saddened that his colleagues “in the other camp”
did not participate in the process ..
After rigorous lobbying by senators, the All Progressives Congress on
Saturday announced Senator Ahmed Lawan and Senator George Akume as sole
candidates for the position of President and Deputy Senate President of
the 8th Senate respectively.
This decision was arrived at after a primary election
conducted by the National Working Committee of the APC at the
International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The returning officer Mala Buni who is also the National Secretary of the Party, announced that out of the 33 Senators
accredited to vote,Lawan got 32 votes with one vote was
declared invalid..”
