Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is now the "standard-bearer"
for his party and his political rise is the result of partisan fervor
stoked by years of opposition to all major Obama administration
initiatives, Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid said on Wednesday.
Speaking on the floor of the U.S. Senate one day after Trump scored a string of victories in Republican primary elections, Reid said: "Republicans created him (Trump) by spending seven years appealing to some of the darkest forces in America."
Reid added that Republicans had decided from the start of Obama's presidency in 2009 that Obama was an "illegitimate" president.
