Nigerian Doctors Commence 5days Warning Strike

From ASUU Strike to NMA Strike
Nigerian doctors today began a 5-day warning strike following a 21-day ultimatum issued weeks ago to the federal government, demanding pay rise, improved welfare, infrastructure and other benefits which was promised to them.

The President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Osahon Enabulele said this is the first phase of the strike, that the second phase would be effective after the yuletide if there are no favorable developments.

PDP is on Fire: 37 PDP Lawmakers Defect to APC

37 members of the House of Representatives who were formerly under the umbrella of the Peoples’ Democratic Party have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC)

The lawmakers said that they are joining the APC due to “division and factionalisation” within the ruling party.
Decampees also said that their defection to the APC is in obedience to section 68, subsection 1G of the constitution.
The Nigerian constitution stipulates that a lawmaker can only defect to another party without loosing his seat if there is adequate proof that the political party he is moving from is in crisis that must have divided the party.
Lawyers have said that only in a law court would it be determined if the the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party was enough backing for such defection.
The defection from the PDP began after some aggrieved PDP governors decided to join the opposition, APC, in November.

A husband has been jailed for 17 years after he killed his wife by stabbing her at least 15 times then running her over with his car because he thought she was having an affair with a neighbour.
Minta Adiddo sent Akua Agyeman a Christmas card as she was being treated in hospital, blaming the attack on 'devils', the Old Bailey heard.
The 32-year-old mother of two died two months after the brutal stabbing, which was witnessed by her five-year-old daughter.
Adiddo, 38, was today given a life sentence after being convicted of murder, with a minimum term of 17 years.

The Sainsbury's worker from Enfield, North London, had pleaded guilty to manslaughter, although he denied murder.
The court heard he suspected his wife was having an affair with their neighbour Oledapo Etti-Williams in October 2012.
Mr Etti-Williams denied it, but said they exchanged three to four 'sometimes flirtatious' texts a day - and phone records showed they had sometimes sent as many as 80 messages in one day.
On November 5, Adiddo stabbed his wife with a large kitchen knife in their bedroom while their one-year-old daughter slept in a cot next to them.

Report reaching US from Minna, Niger State capital, indicates that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has called off its five months strike.
The Union arrived at the latest decision to suspends its strike after a marathon meeting held at the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Niger State on Monday.
