Education Stakeholders Cautions Aregbesola on new education Policy in Osun state

Students of the Baptist High School in Iwo, Osun State have made a gesture of resistance to the state's new education policies.
On Monday, the students attended classes sporting a variety of religious attires in what appeared to be a rejection of new uniforms imposed by the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola. On assembly grounds, the students also defiantly rent the air with differing religious choruses. Christian students wore white clothes, Muslim ones wore flowing gowns, while animist students wore a variety of different clothes.

THE National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday said that those who defected from the APC or joined it had rights to do so.

Tinubu made the statement while speaking with political correspondents on the defection of Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and Attahiru Bafarawa from APC to PDP.

Shekarau, a former governor of Kano State, and Bafarawa, also a former governor of Sokoto State, had recently defected to the PDP, while former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar left the PDP for the APC.

Tinubu, who was in Ikeja to register officially as a member of the APC in his ward, said he respects Bafarawa and Shekarau, adding that they had the right to join any party. continue....

Fred Ajudua has been remanded in Kirikiri Prison for allegedly defrauding former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi (retd.), of about $8.395m (about N1.3 billion).

Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye ordered on Wednesday that he should be remanded in prisons custody following a fresh 13-count charge of fraud brought against him by EFCC.

The EFCC in the fresh charges dated 14 October, 2013, alleged that Ajudua, along with others still at large, defrauded Gen. Bamaiyi of $8.387m between November 2004 and June 2005 while in prison.

Ajudua is the only defendant in the fresh charges as others who allegedly committed the offences along with him are said to be at large. Continue...

The suspected fake lawyer was arrested when he came in as a lawyer for a court hearing. His moves were suspected by an orderly attached to the Appeal Court, DCR Office, who got him arrested.

Upon his arrest, he was interrogated and is alleged to have confessed to the fact that he had never trained as a lawyer but didn't know it was an offense to pose as a lawyer and represent clients in court without training or authority. Continue...

Chris Brown appeared in court yesterday with his 'ride or die' chick, Karrueche Tran, who supported him as he faced a judge regarding his arrest for battery in Washington, D.C. The singer avoided jail time at a hearing.

The prosecutor wanted Chris in jail, telling the judge, "He continues to pose an increasingly violent danger to society. Defendant Brown's violent behavior continues to increase in severity & frequency."

Confusion as student wear regalia to school and sing different religion song in Osun

Pupils of Baptist High School, Iwo on the assembly ground... on Tuesday.

There was confusion at Baptist High School, Iwo, Osun State on Tuesday as some pupils shunned their uniforms and wore choir gowns, white garments, Islamic apparel and other unconventional dresses to the school.

Although no group or individual could be identified as the mastermind of the bizarre dress code by the pupils, there were, however, conflicting reasons for the behaviour.

While some people said the unconventional dresses were a way of registering dislike for the same uniform introduced by the government for all schools in the state, others said some Christians who were opposed to wearing of hijab in schools founded by Christian missionaries orchestrated the drama.

The suit instituted on the issue of hijab wearing to school is still pending before an Osun State High Court.

But Tuesday confusion reportedly became more pronounced at the assembly ground as the pupils could not listen to their teachers because they were busy lining up themselves along religious lines.

Nigerians Serving in Uk Prison rejects Transfer Agreement-Says Envoy

Some Nigerians serving various jail terms in the UK have kicked against the recently signed Prisoner Transfer Agreement between Nigeria and British governments.
Dr Dalhatu Tafida, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the UK, on Tuesday in London confirmed this in an interview with the Europe Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Tafida said that some of the prisoners have expressed concern over returning to the country to complete their terms, citing poor prison facilities and stigma as main reasons.

Police arrested seven for Destroying Pres Jonathan Portrait in Ogun State

The Nigerian police Command in Ogun state, western Nigeria, yesterday arrested seven persons suspected of destroying the portaits of President Goodluck Jonathan hung at the burgled secretariat of the Labour Party Secretariat in the State.
The suspects were also accused of masterminding the burglary of the Secretariat in Adatan, Abeokuta, the
State capital on Saturday.

The police officer caught on video demanding 'dollar bribe' from a Nigerian-American he stopped for wearing a navy-like cargo pant, has been arrested and currently in police custody.

The policeman now identified as Corporal Aniyem Chiyem was heard in the video saying "Arrange dollars. Give us dollars".

According to a press statement released this evening by the Nigerian police, Cpl Chiyem is currently undergoing Orderly Room trials and if found guilty will face appropriate disciplinary actions. See the video and press statement after the cut.

An undergraduate of the University of Ibadan, 28-year- old Orowo Jesse Omokoh, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly obtaining Ninety Thousand Dollars ($90,000.) from one Mrs. Jette Jacob, an Australian based in Johannesburg, South Africa, in what is known as a romance scam.

The suspect allegedly met the Aussie on a dating site and struck a sizzling romantic affair that necessitated him moving to Johannesburg in 2013 to link up with his lover.

22Year Old Drop Out Arrested for posing as Alake of Egba on Facebook

The Police Special Fraud Unit, SFU, has arrested a 22-year-old school drop-out for posing on the social media as the Alake of Egbaland, Michael Gbadebo, to defraud unsuspecting victims.
Gani Akinmade, a former student of Tai Solarin College of Education, Ijebu Ode, attempted to swindle one Olubukola Awofeso, a resident of the United Kingdom whom he met on Facebook, of N300, 000.00, the police said Sunday.

Like a recurring decimal, another policeman has been caught on video demanding American dollars after apprehending a Nigerian-American and two other Nigerians for alleged traffic offence(s).

A three-minute, 45-second footage secretly filmed by one of the passengers detailing the encounter of the trio, in the hands of the policeman, has become a sensation on YouTube and other social networking sites.

One of the three, who later spoke in Yoruba, was heard explaining to the policeman that one of them was actually celebrating his birthday and that they were hurrying to catch up with a friend. The incident, according to the description given on YouTube, was said to have happened in the Egbeda area of Lagos.

“Arrange dollars. Give us dollars,” the AK-47-wielding policeman, who was alone while the encounter lasted, declared to a well-built passenger who had been making efforts to pacify him.

The cop who was comfortably sitting at the back seat of the car from where he negotiated the dollar-bribe subsequently ordered the passenger back into the vehicle with a view to kick-starting the negotiation.

The Nigerian-American quickly cut in to explain that he wasn’t carrying any dollars on him and that he was only on vacation in the country.

Academy Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman is dead. He was found dead in his New York City home yesterday, Sunday, 2^nd of February, 2014. The cause of his death is yet to be ascertained, but Police say he might have died of a suspected overdose as a needle was found in his arm. Police also said apparent heroin was found at the scene.

Local resident Mohammed Usman said Albani’s wife and son were immediately hit, while the gunmen appeared to have dragged the cleric from the car and shot him at close range.

El-Rufai and Asari-Dokubo

The Interim Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Nasir El-Rufai, on Saturday referred to ex-Niger Delta militant leader, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo as a thug, saying there was no basis for comparing both of them.

El-Rufai said this during an interview with Sahara TV, while responding to a question on his 15-hour interrogation by the State Security Service.
