Court jailed 23yr Old man for attempting to kill Pres Obama

An Idaho man who admitted trying to assassinate President Barack Obama by shooting at the White House received a 25-year prison sentence on Monday.
Oscar Ortega-Hernandez, 23, appeared in federal court after pleading guilty in September to terrorism and weapons charges. He had been originally indicted on 17 criminal counts.
Prosecutors had charged Ortega-Hernandez with firing a Romanian-made assault rifle out of the window of his car the evening of 11 November, 2011.
After sending a number of rounds toward the White House, he sped away toward a bridge leading to the Virginia suburbs, but crashed his vehicle and fled on foot, officials said.
The government said Ortega-Hernandez’s fingerprints were found on ammunition magazines left in a 1998 Honda, but not on the weapon itself, which also was left in the car.

Press Release:SSS confirms death of 21 detainees after foiled prison break

The spokesperson for the Department of State Security Services (SSS) Marilyn Ogar said yesterday that 21 detained terrorists died during the attempted jailbreak at the Service's headquarters in Abuja on Sunday morning.

"Following our earlier releases, it has been established that eighteen (18) casualties were recorded, while two (2) Service personnel sustained serious injuries. Three (3) other detainees who sustained gunshot injuries during the incident have also died.

"Meanwhile, investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the immediate and remote causes.

Nyako tells Jonathan!Stop blaming the Northerners on your poor perfomance

Jonathan spoke on saturday at the North East Zonal rally of the PDP in Bauchi, capital of Bauchi state. Nyako, who used to be a member of Jonathan’s PDP and has now joined the opposition APC, responded yesterday.
He described the President’s claim as unfortunate and insisted that it was the poor leadership exhibited by the Jonathan administration that had aided and abetted the rising spate of terrorism in the North.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state categorically that if there is any proof of bad governance, it will be located in the way and manner the President executes his priorities and the kind of statements he and his spokespersons make. Governors are not and cannot be held responsible for security challenges since they have no control over security apparatus. The President is the Commander-in-Chief with powers over the Armed Forces, Police and other security agencies,”Nyako said.

SSS,Military foils Jail break attempt by Boko Haram members

Security was  beefed up around the Presidential Villa and other parts of Abuja on Sunday morning as heavy shootings were recorded at the  headquarters of the State Security Service.

The SSS headquarters, known as Yellow House, is located behind the Villa.

The access gate to the Villa through the Fire Service office in Asokoro was quickly shut while more heavily armed soldiers were seen at the gate leading to the nation’s seat of power through the Federal Secretariat.

Military helicopters were also seen hovering over the area

BUSTED! NDLEA arrests 34yr Old man who inserts heroine in his anus

Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 34-year-old man who allegedly inserted two wraps of heroin into his anus to bring it into the country.
This is contained in a statement by Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, Head, Public Affairs of NDLEA, on Friday in Lagos.
It said the suspect was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on his arrival from Pakistan.
According to the statement, the heroin was detected during inward screening of passengers on a Qatar airline flight.

Islamic cleric caught slaughtering human being in Ibadan

Barely days after the discovery of the House of Horror in Soka, an Islamic cleric has been arrested trying to slit a girl’s throat.

According to the Tribune, The suspect, Isah Salaudeen, 37, is currently cooling his head at the Iyaganku Division of Oyo State Police Command for attempted murder of one Chiwendu Nkwocha (also known as Divine).

Salaudeen had started using knife to slit the throat of the girl after which he then used a cutlass to hack her. This made the lady to scream, jumped up from where she was lying and ran out for help.

The incident was said to have been reported by one Aafa Taiye Agulofi and Ademola Agoro, residents of Ori Eru, along Agbaje road, Agbeni area of Ibadan, where the suspect also resided.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday indicted some unnamed state governors in the north-eastern part of the country over the spate of insecurity in the zone that has left hundreds of people dead.

He said the unnamed governors who turn around to attribute the violence to bad leadership failed in their responsibility of providing basic primary and secondary education for the children.

He said the uneducated children who form an army of unemployed and unemployable youths are now tools in the hands of miscreants who feed and arm them to kill innocent citizens.

Thirty nine-year-old Angela Chidozie, who was arrested last week Friday by men of the Ogun State Police Command at a house she allegedly used as a ‘baby factory’ in Akute area of the state, is currently cooling off at the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the command.

She was arrested with eight young girls who are in different stages of pregnancy.

The fair-complexioned lady told Saturday PUNCH that money was not the aim of operating the business.

Chidozie insisted that she was sure none of her patrons bought the babies for ritual purposes.

Asked how she was sure of that, she said, “I study those who come to buy babies from me. When I am sure that they actually want to buy because they are looking for the fruits of the womb, I sell the babies to them.

25year old House-help Hacked retired Chief Magistrate to death in Ogun State

A 25 year old house help identified simply as David has been arrested for attacking and beheading a 65 year old retired Chief magistrate, Vanguard reports.

Olufunmilayo Timeyin was  slaughtered at her residence in Laderin  estate in Obafemi-Owode LGA of Ogun State.

David allegedly scaled the fence of the late Timeyin’s  bungalow, deactivated the security system inside the building and laid siege within the premises before hacking the retired magistrates to death.

Chidi Lloyd discharge and acquitted of attempted murder

On January 3rd, Chidi Lloyd, the Rivers State lawmaker who was arrested for hitting his colleague with a mace during the mayhem at Rivers State Assembly in July 2013, was arrested for the alleged murder of two people, one Kingsley Ejeuo and police sergeant Urang Obadiah. The lawmaker was accused of knocking down and killing the police sergeant while pursuing Kingsley Ejeuo who he also allegedly killed with his car.

He was discharged and acquitted over a charge of attempted murder by a High Court in Port Harcourt today. The presiding judge said there was nothing the court could do in the matter as the police was not willing to prosecute the case. And that ends it!

Military arrests 31 Boko Haram member,kills 11 others in Adamawa

The Special Forces have arrested 31 fighters of the Boko Haram Sect who were attempting to flee the country through Taraba State and Gumti in Adamawa State into Cameroon.

The Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, said in an electronic mail on Thursday that one of those arrested was a mercenary claiming to be a citizen of Chad and Burkinafaso.

Olukolade also said that 11 insurgents were also killed during shootouts with troops in the  border communities.

He said that the terrorists who were involved in the encounter with the Special Forces were trapped and were forced out of their hideout by hunger.

Federal High Court Nullifies the collection of Toll fee on Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge

The Federal High Court in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria Thursday ordered the Lagos State Government to stop collecting toll on the N29 billion Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, describing toll collection on the bridge as illegal.
A civil rights lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa had in April last year gone to court asking the court to declare unconstitutional collection of toll by the Lagos State Government on a bridge on a Federal waterway and the imposition of tolls on him and other users of the same bridge.
Adegboruwa had said the collection of tolls on the bridge constituted a violation of his fundamental human rights and that of others without alternative route for him to pass.

Gas Explosion rocks Abuja Shopping Plaza

According to PUNCH,

Residents scampered for safety on Thursday as explosion rocks Shagari Plaza on Moshood Abiola Way, Garki-Area One, Abuja.

The quick succession in which the explosion occurred made customers and neighbours to scamper into safety. Many expressed fears that it was a bomb explosion.

But an eyewitness account said the first explosion occurred at about 5:17pm when a gas cylinder exploded. A jeep parked close to the gas dispenser went up in flames.

The gas retailer, who tried to recover his money kept under one of the cylinders, was also caught in the explosion while trying to save his earnings for the day. “He kept it under one of the cylinders. As he was trying to take the money, another cylinder exploded,” another eyewitness said.

A police officer Corporal Sunkanmi Ogunbiyi, attached to the Ogun State Police Command killed 8 people shot 3 others and killed himself after he quarrelled with his wife who then moved into their landlady's house..According to Channels News, his wife who was also a corporal at the same command usually went to stay with their landlady each time they had a quarrel & he and had warned his landlady not to harbour her  they had a misunderstanding.

Court nullifies FRSC new plate Number

Premium Times reports

Delivering judgment in a suit filed by Emmanuel Ofoegbu, a lawyer, against the FRSC, the judge said that it was unlawful for the commission to impose the new number plates on Nigerians, where no existing law permitted it.

“The issue of redesigning new number plates by the respondent, is not covered under the provisions of any law in Nigeria,” said James Tsoho, the judge.

“The respondent (FRSC) cannot force Nigerians to acquire new plate numbers by impounding cars, without the backing of any legislation to that effect.
“I hold that the act of the respondent amounts to an arbitrary use of power, and is therefore illegal and unconstitutional.
“Judgment is therefore entered in favour of the plaintiff, and all the reliefs sought is hereby granted, I so hold,” the judge added.

Definitely from tomorrow morning all financial institution in Nigeria will be replacing the portrait of the Central Bank Governor to that of Mr Godwin Emefiele as  the Senate this morning confirmed the appointment of Mr Godwin Emefiele as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Emefiele was the Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank before his new appointment. He replaces Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who was suspended by the Federal Government  on February 20th over allegations of financial recklessness and misconduct.
