No plan to join Real Madrid – Suarez

Luis Suarez has played down speculation linking him with a January transfer to Real Madrid by insisting he is happy at Liverpool.
The Uruguay international was involved in a protracted saga regarding his future in the close-season as he agitated for a move to a club in the UEFA Champions League.
Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Arsenal had two bids rejected for the striker, while La Liga giants Real were also said to be interested in his services.
Rumours persist that Real will launch a move for Suarez in the next transfer window as manager Carlo Ancelotti seeks to boost his side’s firepower further following the world-record capture of Gareth Bale in September.
However, the 26-year-old – who has scored six goals in five Premier League appearances since returning from suspension – has indicated he is satisfied with life on Merseyside as Liverpool bid to return to the Champions League.
“I know nothing of any interest from Real Madrid, and I am happy with Liverpool,” Suarez told Uruguayan radio station Sport 890.
“In the team we are all really excited, and looking forward to a good season. We have been at the top so far and we are still aiming at the top.
“We believe in the team and we believe we can have a really good season – an exciting season.
“The Premier League is the best league there is – the stadiums, the atmosphere and the fans make football here so entertaining.”
Suarez’s public desire to leave Anfield led to Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers ordering him to train away from the rest of the first-team squad for a short period.
However, the former Ajax captain has revealed that the support of his team-mates and the Liverpool fans has had a major impact on helping him feeling settled at the club once again.
“When I was separated (from the squad), the players told me they didn’t like that and wanted me to be with the group,” he added.
“Today I feel very supported by my team-mates, and I appreciate their support.
“The support of the fans was also very important … I feel part of things at Liverpool. It is my home.

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria on Tuesday qualified for the final of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup holding in the United Arab Emirates by beating their Sweden counterparts, Blagult, 3-0.
Taiwo Awoniyi scored Nigeria opening goal in the 21st minute of the first half.
The stiff opposition mounted by the Swedes after the goal failed to fetch them the equalizer.
When it seemed they might get a goal in the second half, Samuel Okon fired in the Eaglets second goal with a left foot cracker while Chidi Ezeh tapped in a minute later to seal the Swedes hope of making it to the final in their debut at the global meet.
Nigeria will meet Mexico, who beat South American power house, Argentina, 3-0 in Dubai on Friday.

ASUU Strike: Lecturers consider calling off strike after marathon meeting

ASUU President says progress was made at the meeting and that his team would take the President’s message to members
After a marathon 13-hour meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the union’s leader said there was a message from the President which would be presented to their members for consideration.
There are however indications that the meeting, which started at about 2:40 p.m Monday afternoon and went on till aout 3:30 a.m Tuesday morning, may have yielded positive results.
Monday’s meeting is the first time the president would lead government’s delegation team for negotiation with ASUU since the commencement of the strike four months ago.
The presidency had taken over the negotiation with the striking union on September 20, with Vice President Namadi Sambo heading the government team. He however was unable to make any headway in the talks with the university teachers.
Emerging from the meeting at the First Lady’s conference room at the presidential villa, ASUU President, Nasir Faggae said, “We have had lengthy meeting with Mr. President, rubbing minds on how best to address the problem of university education in this country.”
“We now have a message from Mr. President that we are going to take to our members and we are expecting that our members will respond appropriately to the message of Mr. President.”
On whether the lecturers are now going back to the classroom, the ASUU President said, “that is up to our members.”
When asked to disclose the the President ‘s message that would be delivered to the members of the union, Mr. Faggae said, “I cannot tell you, it’s not for you, it is for our members.”
On whether he was impressed with the President’s message, Mr. Faggae said, “Don’t put words into my mouth, our members will determine that”
However, Labour Minister, Emeka Wogu told State House Correspondents that meaningful progress was made in the negotiations with ASUU, expressing hope that the striking lecturers would call off the strike.
Mr. Wogu said, “We made progress, the President of ASUU told you that they are going back with a message from the Federal Government back to their members and the message is full of high expectations and hope.”
On whether the strike would be called off, he said: “That is why the message is full of high expectations and hope. So our prayers is that they come back with positive outcome. They might not even come back to meet us, they might take decisions there that will meet your expectations.”
“Nigerians should be patient for ASUU to finish their meetings and come out with a message to Nigerians.”
Responding to whether the Federal Government made a fresh offer to the striking lecturers, the Minister said, “the offer we made are the offer they are taking in line with the 2009 agreement. The issues that led to the strike are issues contained in the 2009 agreement and we did not go beyond the agreement.”
About four hours into the meeting (6:30p.m. Monday) the meeting broke for a 15-minute break. The ASUU President led his team to their bus, a white Toyota Bus with Lagos registration number, BU 190 EPE, to confer amongst themselves. While making the consultation, the ASUU leaders left the leadership of the NLC, the TUC and government representatives back at the hall.
The meeting resumed at about 6:50 p.m.
The ASUU President led members of the national leadership of the academic union, including his deputy, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, three past presidents of ASUU, Professor Festus Iyayi, Professor Dipo Fashina and Professor Abdullahi Sule-Kano.
Other members of ASUU delegation include Professor Suleiman Abdul, Professor Victor Osodeke and Dr. Victor Igbum.
The President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Bobboi Kaigama as well as staff and other members of the congress were also at the meeting.
On the side of government were Vice President Sambo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim; Chief of Staff to the President, Mike Oghiadhomhe; Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; her counterpart in the Labour and Productivity Ministry, Emeka Wogu and the Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike.
Also at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Mac John Nwaobiala; Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie and Director, Tertiary Education in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Hindatu Abdullahi.

Synopsis of the contentious 2009 agreement

The agreement included details such as the breakdown of lecturers’ salary structure, staff loans, pension, overtime, and moderation of examinations.
Part of the agreement dwelt on funding of universities where both parties agreed that each federal university should get at least N1.5 trillion between 2009 and 2011 while state universities, within the same period, should receive N3.6 million per student.
The agreement also had parts that asked the re-negotiation committee to ensure that at least 26 percent of Nigeria’s annual budget was allocated to education, and half of that allocation to universities.
The agreement also asked that the 2004 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Act, and the National University Commission Act 2004, be amended.
Text of the suggested amendment bills – including suggestion for amendment of the Education (National Minimum Standards and Establishment of Institutions) Act 2004 – were provided in the agreements.
The agreement was signed by Bolanle Babalakin, the then chairman of Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities; Gamaliel Onosode, chairman of the re-negotiation committee; and Ukachukwu Awuzei, the then president of ASUU.
The agreement demanded a heavy financial commitment from the government and was an adaptation of an earlier agreement reached in 2001.
It is unclear how much of the agreement have been implemented by the government.
However, the secretary to the federation, Pius Anyim, after one of the recent failed negotiations, said that most of the issues contained in the 2009 agreement, had been fully met except for the earned allowances estimated at N92 billion.
“Some of the issues which bothered on amendment of pensionable retirement age of academics in the professorial cadre, consolidated peculiar allowances (CONPUAA)- exclusively for university teaching staff, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), setting up of budget monitoring committee in all public universities have been fully implemented,” he disclosed.

Rebels Govs Jet grounded in Abuja

Nigerian aviation authorities in Abuja yesterday briefly grounded a private jet that was supposed to ferry some governors and politicians belonging to the break-away faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Lagos en route Abeokuta. SaharaReporters learnt that the members of the new PDP were about to fly to Lagos on their way to a meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
A spokesman for the new PDP told SaharaReporters that the temporary grounding of the jet was “part of the Jonathan administration’s desperate war against us.” He added, “We will not be deterred in our struggle to enthrone true democracy within the PDP.”
The source added that this was not the first time the Ministry of Aviation was being used to ground a jet used by opposition figures within the party, citing the withdrawal of the flying privileges of a jet owned by Rivers State government.
When SaharaReporters made inquiries about the reasons for today’s brief grounding, two Nigerian aviation officials gave conflicting responses. The Aviation Ministry’s General Manager, Yakubu Datti, told SaharaReporters over the phone that the ministry was not involved at all in any delay of the flight. He claimed that the problem arose purely from a disagreement between the jet owners and the politicians, insisting that the issue had nothing to do with the aviation authorities.
However, Joe Obi, the spokesperson for embattled Aviation Minister Stella Oduah, offered a different account in an email to SaharaReporters. His email stated that the jet was briefly stopped from taking off in order to ascertain the pilot’s flight plans and to make other routine checks in accordance with aviation practices all over the world. He emphasized that the plane had since been cleared to fly.

(POLITICS)Rebel Govs meet Obasanjo over crisis

Five of the seven aggrieved governors of the   Peoples Democratic Party on Monday  met behind  closed doors  with former President Olusegun Obasanjo  in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The meeting which lasted about two hours  took place barely 13 hours after policemen from the Asokoro Area Command in Abuja   briefly disrupted the governors’ talks at the Kano State Governor’s Lodge in  the nation’s capital.
The  governors  that met with Obasanjo were  Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); Babangida Aliyu (Niger); Rabiu   Kwakwanso (Kano); Sule Lamido (Jigawa); and Murtala Nyako (Adamawa).
Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed  of  Kwara State and  his Sokoto State counterpart, Aliyu Wammako,  were however absent.
Journalists were barred from  the Hilltop residence of the ex-President where  the   meeting, which is a continuation of the rebel governors’ consultations on  how to end their disagreements with President Goodluck Jonathan and the Bamanga Tukur-led PDP, was held.
They had  previously met with Obasanjo who chairs the PDP Elders Committee which is trying to reconcile   the  parties  . They also had talks with former Heads of State, Generals Absulsami Abubakar and Ibrahim Babangida.
It was   gathered that the rebel governors  updated the former President on the latest developments in their efforts to end the face-off with  Jonathan and the PDP leadership.
At about 1:50pm,  Amaechi drove the other governors in an unmarked black BMW jeep out of the expansive mansion in a convoy of other vehicles.
Earlier, the Rivers State  governor had interrupted  Aliyu, who  was  addressing  journalists  on their  Abeokuta mission .
The journalists had asked Aliyu if they came to inform Obasanjo about their alleged decision to leave the PDP.
Amaechi,   in response to the question, asked, “Who told you  that?”
But Aliyu  continued , saying  “I don’t know about that. It’s just a speculation.”
He added that their meeting with Obasanjo was part of their consultations with the elders of the party.
Aliyu however expressed hope that the disagreements  between them and the President would soon be resolved.
He added  that they  had been having discussions with   Jonathan on the current face-off.
The governor said, “You may recall that when issues started, we consulted our elders, so this is part of the consultation;  more so that we are coming to the resolution of the matter .
“We’ve been discussing with the President about these issues  and we believe after the lull caused  by  the pilgrimage to Mecca, we will  continue from where we stopped.  So,  we needed to consult again to find out if there is any variable that has intervened and we are very happy things are going normal.”
It was further learnt that the governors had scheduled separate meetings with other former Heads of State, including  Gen. Yakubu Gowon .
Meanwhile, some National Assembly members and New PDP leaders   from Rivers State  were on Monday held up on an aircraft at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
This followed the grounding of the aircraft, which was  conveying them    to Port Harcourt, based on instructions from aviation authorities.
It was gathered that the chartered aircraft had on board, Senator Magnus Abbe,  members of the House of Representatives and the Deputy National Chairman of the New PDP, Dr. Sam Jaja.
Abbe, who  confirmed the development, said he and his colleagues were perplexed about the turn of events.
He  said, “We boarded the aircraft and were about to take off when we were told that the plane could not take off based on orders from  above.
“We tried  to find out where the  order  came from but  nobody  talked to us. It is unfortunate that we have degenerated to the level of playing politics with transportation.”
He explained that they were on their way to Port Harcourt to join Amaechi in hosting officials of the All Progressives Congress.
A senior official of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, who pleaded for anonymity  said, “The aircraft meant to convey them was grounded, but I cannot tell you why.
“However, this has nothing to do with FAAN for in this context, it is not our business to ground (any) aircraft.”
When contacted, the spokesperson for aviation parastatals, Mr. Yakubu Dati, said the aircraft might have been grounded for safety reasons. He said those on board the grounded aircraft  took another  to Port Harcourt.
He said, “There was a problem with the other plane that they boarded; so they took another plane and left.
“If you go and charter a vehicle and it can’t move, and you go to the next one and charter it, is there anything wrong with that? So check those angles.
“Any problem can arise. This is why we ensure that people follow regulations. You will recall that one of the issues that affected Amaechi’s plane is because there were issues with that aircraft’s manifest.
“And when the Associated Airlines flight had an accident, what saved us was that there was a manifest. If not we wouldn’t have known who was on the flight. So there could be one issue or the other.”

JONATHAN-ASUU UPDATE

After about four hours of consultation, the meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities was suspended at about 6.15pm.
The break was to give members of both teams the opportunity to consult.
While Jonathan and members of his team retired into one of the ante-rooms inside the First Lady Conference Hall venue of the meeting, the union leaders held their consultation inside a white bus parked outside the premises.
The Toyota Hiace bus, marked Lagos BU 190 EPE, was the one used to convey them to the venue.
The break and consultation session were still ongoing as at 6.40pm

(LEAKED) ‘US spies on Nigerian security agencies’

US spies on Nigerian security agencies
Indications emerged on Saturday that the United States has been spying on the Nigeria’s security agencies, especially the State Security Service, and probably the Presidency.
In a report published in New York Times, Edward Snowden, an American computer specialist, who worked for the US Central Intelligence Agency and as a contractor with the US National Security Agency, stated that Nigeria’s SSS was one of the security agencies across the globe that the N.S.A. had been listening in on.
He said briefs on the information gleaned from intercepting of telephone conversations and hacking of computers of the SSS, other security agencies in Nigeria and other countries are delivered to the office of the US President, Barrack Obama every morning.
“By many accounts, the agency provides more than half of the intelligence nuggets delivered to the White House early each morning in the President’s Daily Brief — a measure of success for American spies. One document boasts that listening in on Nigerian State Security Service had provided items for the briefing “nearly two dozen” times. In every international crisis, American policy makers look to the N.S.A. for inside information,” Snowden told New York Times.
The release of documents that proved that the NSA had been eavesdropping on the communications of world leaders, including US allies, had caused diplomatic rows, with Germany and some other countries protesting.
Snowden also noted that the NSA had obtained thousands of classified documents, containing secrets of governments around the world, pointing to a possibility that it might have obtained secret documents of the Federal Government of Nigeria, or tapped President Goodluck Jonathan’s phone conversations.
Snowden, who is on a temporary political asylum in Russia, disclosed classified details of several top-secret United States, Israeli, and British government mass surveillance programmes to the press.
He started releasing the NSA’s documents in June and the documents he has released so far show that the US has been spying most countries in the world

(sport) Newcastle stun Jose's Blues

Newcastle - Chelsea were prevented from taking over at the top of the Premier League table on Saturday after being dealt a shock 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United.
Victory would have taken Jose Mourinho's side above leaders Arsenal, who host Liverpool later on Saturday, but instead they fell to second-half goals by Yoan Gouffran and Loic Remy on a rain-soaked afternoon in northeast England.
It was Chelsea's second defeat of the campaign and their second consecutive loss away to Newcastle, while Mourinho has now gone four league games without victory at St James' Park in his two spells as Chelsea coach.
Chelsea's best chances of the first half both came from corners and fell to John Terry, who saw one header come back off the crossbar and another headed off the line by a stooping Davide Santon.
The visitors were happy to cede possession to their hosts, but although Newcastle struggled to create chances in the first half, they began to make inroads in the second period.
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech was called upon three times in five minutes to keep Newcastle at bay, thwarting Moussa Sissoko, Remy and Gouffran in quick succession as Alan Pardew's men took the upper hand.
Mourinho reacted by sending on Willian for Juan Mata, only for Newcastle to open the scoring in the 68th minute when Gouffran converted Yohan Cabaye's free-kick with a diving header.
Mourinho introduced Andre Schuerrle and Samuel Eto'o, and the Cameroonian felt he should have been awarded a penalty soon after coming on when his goal-bound half-volley struck the arm of Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.
Nothing was given though, and after Willian, Eto'o, Schuerrle and Eden Hazard all went close to an equaliser, Remy swept home a neat cut-back from Vurnon Anita in the 89th minute to seal Chelsea's fate.
Chelsea's defeat saw them slip to third place, with Liverpool overtaking them on goal difference, while Newcastle climb to ninth.
Manchester City, beaten 2-1 at Chelsea last weekend, host Norwich City later, while Manchester United will hope to continue their recent improvement when they visit Fulham.

(SO SAD)Politics at the highest level

Relatives of the victims weeping
A stampede at a Catholic prayer house in Uke, Idemili-South local government area, has left dozens of people killed and scores injured.
Saharareporters sources say that the trouble started after Gov. Peter Obi of Anambra state and his party’s candidate for governor, Willie Obiano, visited the Catholic night vigil.
Several sources in Anambra state told Saharareporters that the incident happened around 2 AM on Saturday. Witnesses said that hundreds of people at the event gave Gov. Obi and his candidate a cold shoulder, mumbling that their candidate of choice was All Peoples Congress (APC) candidate, Dr. Chris Ngige. The Reverend Father in charge  of the Adoration Ground, Rev. Emma Obinma popularly called Ebube Nuo-nso, tried to pacify the congregation.
As soon at the governor and his team left, fracas ensued at the entrance of the Church when the crowd raised alarm that armed men had arrived.
It immediately led to a stampede. Saharareporters reached the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra state, DSP Emeka Chukwuemeka, who confirmed the incident. However, he could not state how many people died or were injured.
The Police spokesman said that his men had visited the Catholic Church where they witnessed many of the ‘so-called’ dead victims regain consciousness. He said the command is investigating whether the governor visited the church and the role such a visit probably played.
Governor Obi’s spokesperson, Valentine Obieyem did not respond to calls.
Meanwhile, Dr.  Ngige has blamed the incident on Gov.  Obi. On his Facebook page, the APC candidate accused Gov. Obi and his APGA candidate, Willie Obiano of inducing the stampede after worshipers booed them.
”The priest in charge, Ebube Mmuo Nso had told Obi that the people already knew whom to vote for so should be left alone. Unfortunately, in the sheer act of wickedness, Obi’s goons charged into the crowd who booed at them and induced stampede, which led to the untimely death of 15 persons, including women and children while wounding many more,” Dr. Ngige said.
Anambra gubernatorial election is slated to take place on November 16, 2013

UNIVERSITIES will be compulsorily re-open next week...If-Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday, November 4, meet with the leadership of ASUU at the Presidential Villa.
This was part of the resolutions of the meeting between the ASUU leadership, Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education on Tuesday as was first reported by this medium.
An official of the Vice President’s office who pleaded anonymity told Scan News that all hands are now on deck to ensure that the universities resume next week.
The official stated that the Vice President and the Supervising Minister of Education have made head-way in resolving the strike, but the final involvement of the President is to show ASUU that there is the commitment of the Federal Government at the highest level.
It was learnt that the President has been fully briefed on steps taken by Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education to get to this point.
It was learnt that the President will at next Monday’s meeting present to the ASUU leadership the administration’s last concession for them to call off the prolonged strike.
A source at the Presidential Villa noted that if ASUU fails to call off, the Federal Government will then resort to plan B, which will be to compulsorily open the universities, using the instrumentality of the governing councils and the school managements.
Already, most of the governing councils of the universities have started meeting to work out modalities for the compulsory re-opening of the universities should ASUU fail to honour the personal request of President Jonathan.
Scan News gathered that the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr.
Nyesom Wike and the Vice Chancellors of Public Universities also discussed the re-opening of the schools last Monday. Most of the Vice Chancellors suggested the compulsory re-opening of the schools, should the last ditch efforts fail.
It was gathered that security report available to the Presidency may have necessitated this line of action to salvage the universities system from the direction it is facing at present.

(lifestyle) Jay Z: The 40 million album man

Jay Z
The documentary of American rap star, Jay Z’s ‘Made In America’ music festival is set to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2013.
A month later, precisely on October 11, the documentary of the annual two-day music festival will hit Showtime Cable Network. Basically, the documentary will chronicle Jay Z creating the festival which held in September 2012.
Held in Philadelphia, the concert featured performances by some other artistes including Kanye West, Drake, Tyler, Pearl Jam and Run DMC. Interviews by some of the artistes have been said to also feature in the documentary.
The film was directed by Ron Howard with the trailer for the documentary already out.
Showtime president of entertainment, David Nevins, said, “Ron Howard and Jay-Z have crafted an inspirational portrayal of American resilience, drive and creativity, interwoven with an incredible showcase of musical talent.”
At this year’s show, however, Jay Z’s wife, Beyonce Knowles, entertained the crowd with a 90-minute performance that featured songs like ‘Crazy in Love’ and ‘Single Ladies (Put a ring on it).
Jay Z is one of the world’s most successful hip hop artistes, having sold over 40 million albums in his career.
In June 2013, Samsung bought a million copies of his recent album, ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’, for $5 each, to put on some of their models for customers, prior to its official release.
Jay Z: From the streets to a life of luxury
Shawn Corey Carter, better known as Jay Z is one of the most successful music artistes with 17 Grammy awards and a track record of achievements as a rapper and record producer. Jay Z, who is arguably one of the greatest rappers of all time, has sold approximately 50 million albums worldwide.
Born on December 4, 1969 in Brooklyn, United States, Jay Z’s foray into business has also paid off, in spite of his poor background. Jay Z was only 11 years when his father, Adnes Reeves, abandoned the family, leaving him and his three siblings to the care of their mother, Gloria Carter.
He once admitted in his music to having been involved in selling crack cocaine as a street boy and also claimed that at age 12, he shot his older brother in the shoulder for stealing his jewellery. He claimed that he himself was shot at three times during that time of his life.
But today, Jay Z is an entrepreneur with a stake in NBA’s Brooklyn Nets. He co-owns the 40/40 Club and is also the co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records and the clothing line, Rocawear.
In 2012, Forbes estimated Jay Z’s worth at nearly $500 million (N80bn). Remarkably, Jay Z started his music career selling his CDs out of his car because he could not get a major label to give him a record deal.
It seems that Jay Z is still very much connected to his roots as an African-American. His contributions to the Broadway show, Fela, which celebrated the work of the late Nigerian music legend, Fela Kuti, was a case in point. Jay Z said that Kuti’s work and life story inspired him and stirred up his interest to support the production of the musical.
Jay Z is publicly known to be friends with US President, Barack Obama, and both parties have openly confessed their friendship. He was a supporter of Obama’s candidacy to become a senator and later, the US president. Recently, Jay Z admitted in an interview that he and Obama exchange text messages.
“Yeah, I’ve spoken to him on the phone and had texts from Obama, of course,” he once said.
In the past, Obama has also been quoted as saying, “Every time I talk to Jay Z, who is a brilliant talent and a good guy, I enjoy how he thinks. That’s somebody who is going to start branching out and can help shape attitudes in a real positive way.”
Jay Z is married to American R and B singer, Beyonce Knowles, who he gave a $5 million (N800m) wedding ring in 2008. The couple lives a lavish lifestyle and their daughter, Blue Ivy, has also not been left out.
Jay Z once joked in an interview on TV that he knew he would “probably have the worst, spoiled little kid ever,” and he had reasons for saying so. Blue Ivy was born amid a $125,000 (N22m) security operation which saw a bulletproof door temporarily installed at the entrance to Beyonce’s room at the New York hospital where she delivered.
It is said that Blue Ivy has her own nursery at a basketball stadium that costs $1 million (N160m) a year to rent. When Blue Ivy was just five days old, the couple reportedly bought her a $21,000 (N3.36m) crib. And don’t forget the $16,000 (N2.56m) high chair lined with crystals, designed by Carla Monchen, from which Blue Ivy can eat when she is old enough.
Jay Z owns a 14-room apartment in one of the world’s most luxurious apartment buildings, the Trump World Towers in New York, at a cost of $65,000 (N10.4m) a month. In addition, the couple owns a property spread on about 2 acres of land in Scarsdale, New York . The couple also owns a large mansion in Indian Creek Island, Florida, which was their onetime residence. The house has 7 bedrooms, 8 full and two partial baths, a tile roof, and a pool.
But that is not all, Jay Z has a $40 million (N6.4bn) private jet, a Bombardier Challenger 850, which was presented to him as a gift by his wife on the occasion of Father’s Day. The jet can accommodate 15 passengers and boasts a living room, two bathrooms and a kitchen. By the way, the couple also has a yacht that reportedly costs them $377,000 (N60.32m) a week. And what is it they say about a man’s car saying a lot about him? Well, if that’s the case, then Jay Z’s garage screams about his flamboyant lifestyle. Consider this! Jay Z has a Maybach Exelero, a super luxury car customised to his taste and priced at a whooping $8m (N1.28bn).
The car, report says, has a special place in his car collection. Jay Z also has a Bugatti Veyron, the world’s fastest legal sports car, estimated to cost about $2 million (N320m). Also in Jay Z’s garage are other luxury cars like the Pagani Zonda, Rolls Royce Phantom, Ferrari F430 Spider and the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet.

(MONEY SPEAKING)Chelsea FC owner, Abramovich, buys big again

chelsea 6
Russian billionaire and owner of Chelsea Football Club, Roman Abramovich, is in the final stages of buying a 1920s mansion overlooking Central Park in Manhattan’s posh Upper East Side for a record-breaking $75m (N12bn), media reports said.
Abramovich has reportedly signed a contract to buy the 9,720 square foot, or 903 square meter, six-story home that is currently divided into three units, real estate website, Trulia reported.
If Abramovich seals the deal, the $75m price tag would set a new record sale price for a co-op (apartment building) in New York, outstripping the $54m (N8.64bn) paid by music and movie mogul, David Geffen, last year for another Fifth Avenue property.
The Manhattan property that Abramovich is reportedly poised to buy was acquired in 2005 by British real estate developer, Howard Ronson, who wanted to turn it back into the single-family mansion that it was in the 1920s, when it was built for coal magnate, Edward Berwind.
But Ronson died in 2007, and his family put the property on the market last year for $72m (N11.52bn).
Abramovich and his longtime girlfriend, Dasha Zhukova, have been looking at real estate in New York for the past year, the New York Post reported.
The 47-year-old Russian tycoon, who began life as an orphan, is also said to own an eight-story property in London’s Lowndes Square, several other residences around the world, and what used to be the world’s biggest yacht until it was eclipsed this year by the Emir of Abu Dhabi’s super yacht.
How Chelsea’s rich owner, Abramovich spends his money
Russian Business tycoon and owner of Chelsea Football Club, popularly called ‘Baba Olowo’ by Lagos football lovers, Roman Abramovich, leads a flamboyant lifestyle much like a modern-day emperor.
If wealthy individuals could be categorised into rich and super-rich, then Abramovich would easily belong to the latter. According to Forbes, Abramovich’s net worth was estimated at $10.2bn (N1.63tn) as at March 2013, down from $12.1bn the previous year.
Born into a Jewish family, Abramovich, 47,  was orphaned by age four. His mother, Irina Vasilevna, was a musician and his father, Arkady Abramovich, worked as a supplier at a construction trust in Syktyvkar, former USSR. Irina died from bacteremia as a result of a back-alley abortion when  he was one year old. His father Arkady Abramovich was killed in an incident on a construction site when Roman was three years old.
As a result, Abramovich grew up in his uncle’s family in Ukhta and with his grandmother, Tatyana Semenovna in Moscow.
The Russian is popularly known outside of Russia as the owner of Chelsea FC in the English Premier League, however,  Chelsea is just the tip of the iceberg. The fortune of the Chelsea owner includes several properties that are worth more than “Chelsea” in different parts of the world, including Russia, Britain and France. Besides real estate and sports, Abramovich is known for his taste for all the finer things in life.
Abramovich started his multi-billion-dollar business during his army service. After a brief stint in the Soviet Army, he married his first wife, Olga Lysova. He first worked as a street trader and then as a mechanic at a local factory.
He attended the Gubkin Institute of Oil and Gas in Moscow, where he sold retreaded car tires on the side and traded commodities for Runicom, a Swiss trading company.
In 1988, Abramovich got a chance to legitimise his old business. He and Olga set up a company making dolls. Due to his business acumen, within a few years his wealth spread from oil conglomerates to pig farms and he also started investing in other businesses.
Abramovich was the governor of Russian Far Easter region of Chukotka, from 2000 to 2008.
However, Abramovich’s source of wealth has been mired in controversy. In 1992, he was arrested and sent to prison in a case of theft of government property. The case was later closed but by 1995, he and former business colleague, Berezovsky, acquired a controlling interest in the giant Soviet oil company, Sibneft, under controversial circumstances.
In 2008, The Times  reported that Abramovich admitted that he paid billions of dollars for political favours and protection fees to obtain a big share of Russia’s oil and aluminum assets as was shown by court papers obtained by the media house.
Currently, Abramovich is divorced. His first marriage to Olga lasted three years- between 1987 and 1990. Abramovich remarried in 1991 to Irina Malandina, but was divorced again in 2007. Irina was paid a settlement of $300m (N48bn) following the divorce. He is now with girlfriend, Daria Zhukoya, who has had two children with him.
However, Abramovich is regarded as the world’s greatest spender on luxury yachts, having been linked to five yachts in what the media have called “Abramovich’s Navy’.
Until early 2013, Abramovich was the owner of the world’s biggest yacht, named, Eclipse, which stood at 533ft. He was knocked off the top of the super yacht league table, a position he held for three years, by United Arab Emirates President and Emir Of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, 65, who recently acquired a 590ft vessel, Azzam.
Eclipse was said to have cost the Russian billionaire around $30m in 2010. The Eclipse takes close to $50m (N8bn) each year to keep it running and single re-fueling costs around $650,000 (N104m) each time. With a crew of up to 60 persons, two swimming pools, two helipads, the Eclipse is considered as a giant of the sea.
The yacht is fortified with advanced technology and has been embedded from all possible angles with the armor plating, bullet proof windows, advanced missile detection system and a provision to escape via submarine located at the bottom end of the yacht.
Abramovich also has a Boeing 767, called ‘The Bandit’ and was the first owner of a private Airbus A340, largest personal plane ever built. His plane is reported to have a gym, Turkish bath, conference rooms, Jacuzzi, bar and a restaurant.
He also owns three Eurocopter helicopters EC-145, EC-135T1 and EC-155B. One of these helicopters is found on one of his yachts and another at Blackbushe airport. He has homes in London, France, St. Barts, Colorado and Los Angeles.
In 2003, Abramovich bought Chelsea FC for over $200m (N32bn), with an agreement that covered the club’s debts.
With Cars like Ferrari FXX, Porsche Carrera GT (Modified), Bugatti Veryron, Maserati MC12 Corsa, Maybach 62 limousines, Ferrari 360 in his garage, Abramovish easily qualifies as a lover of suoer luxury cars.

Rihanna stalker given restraining order

Rihanna
Rihanna has been granted a temporary restraining order against a man who allegedly broke into her Los Angeles home last month.
The 25-year-old Barbadian beauty’s Los Angeles home was allegedly invaded by Jonathan Whooper twice since the end of September, 2013.
Whooper was taken into custody after police officers identified him as the suspect who threw a chair through a glass door at the star’s Pacific Palisades home.
According to TMZ, a judge “issued a temporary restraining order against Whooper, ordering him to stay at least 100 yards away” from Rihanna’s residence after he was taken into custody on October 4, 2013.
TMZ reports that Whooper caused mass destruction on Rihanna’s mansion before his arrest.
“Whooper made multiple trips to the home. During the incident on the 29th [of September], cops say he broke into the home, triggering the alarm,” the website writes.
“When he couldn’t disarm the system, he decided to leave… but not before breaking a glass patio table.”
Whooper returned just a few days later, but he was confronted by security before he could cause further damage, according to the website.
When questioned about why he was at Rihanna’s residence, Whooper supposedly told guards he was Rihanna’s “future husband”.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Rihanna claimed she was suffering “substantial emotional distress and concern for her personal safety” following the incidents.
Whooper has been charged with attempted burglary, vandalism, stalking, prowling and felony.
This is not the star’s first issue with stalkers. An overzealous fan was arrested on the roof of her Los Angeles house in June, 2013.
Last weekend, Rihanna took the world by storm on her ‘Diamonds’ world tour when she smashed a record in South Africa after performing a sell-out show to more than 67,000 people.
Rihanna living the life
You can call her ‘crazy’, but she is surely one of the most talented artistes in the world today. Robyn Rihanna Fenty, 25, known by her stage name Rihanna, and sometimes RiRi by her fans, is a Barbadian recording pop artist, actress, and fashion designer.
Born to Monica Braithwaite, a retired Afro-Guyanese accountant, and Ronald Fenty, a warehouse supervisor of Barbadian and Irish descent, Rihanna’s work has earned her numerous awards and accolades in her short career in music.
Rihanna, whose professional music career began at age 18 has had six Grammy Awards, five American Music Awards, 22 Billboard Music Awards, and two BRIT Awards. She has sold over 30 million albums and 120 million singles worldwide, which makes her one of the best-selling artistes of all time. Also, she has achieved twelve number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the youngest solo artistes to achieve the feat. Billboard named her the Digital Songs Artist of the 2000s decade, ranking her 17th overall. In 2013, Billboard ranked Rihanna the top Hot 100 artist of the 2010s decade. In 2012, Forbes ranked her the fourth most powerful celebrity of the year, with earnings of $53m (N8.48bn) between May 2011 and May 2012. The same year, TIME named Rihanna one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World.
But life has not always been rosy for the sexy singer; Rihanna grew up in a three-bedroom bungalow in Bridgetown and sold clothes with her father in a stall on the street. Rihanna’s childhood was deeply affected by her father’s addiction to crack cocaine, alcohol, and marijuana, and her parents’ turbulent marriage ended when she was 14.Since the discovery of Rihanna’s potential to be a big star by record producer, Evan Rogers, when a common friend introduced them to each other, her way to stardom has been totally impressive. With her appealing voice and effortless sexiness, Rihanna became an instant hit with her 2005 debut album, ‘Music of the Sun’.
In 2009, reports surfaced regarding an altercation between Rihanna and her then-boyfriend, singer Chris Brown, who was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats. On March 5, 2009, Brown was charged with assault and making criminal threats. A leaked photograph from the Los Angeles Police Department obtained by TMZ.com, revealed that Rihanna had sustained visible injuries.
Rihanna was subpoenaed to testify during a preliminary hearing in Los Angeles on June 22, 2009 and Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault. Brown received five years probation and was ordered to stay fifty yards (48 metres) away from Rihanna, unless at public events, which then would be reduced to ten yards (nine metres). In February 2011, at the request of Brown’s lawyer and with Rihanna’s consent, Judge Patricia Schnegg modified the restraining order to a “level one order,” which allows the singers to appear at awards shows together in the future. In a January 2013 interview with Rolling Stone, Rihanna confirmed that she had rekindled her relationship with Chris Brown, though he remained under probation for the 2009 domestic violence incident. The confirmation followed persistent media speculation throughout 2012 regarding the pair’s reunion. But by May, 2013 in an interview, Brown stated that he and Rihanna had broken up again.
Beyond Rihanna’s exceptional talent and skills, she is widely recognised for her sex appeal, even though, she revealed that being a sex symbol was not her priority. Her new song video, ‘Pour it up’ attracted various reviews, with some criticising the video for being overly explicit. Some of her fans have also branded the latest video ‘obscene’, ‘vile’ and ‘pornographic’.Rihanna’s sexy looks have landed her on the covers of magazines such as Maxim, FHM, Rolling Stone and GQ. She has appeared in the top ten on Maxim’s Hot 100 list and on FHM’s “100 Sexiest Women in the World” several times. She was named the Venus Breeze’s Celebrity Legs of a Goddess by Gillette in 2007 and Diva of the year by Entertainment Weekly in 2008. In 2009,Glamour ranked her at number 17 on the 50 Most Glamorous Women and Esquire named her the Sexiest Woman Alive of 2011.
Interestingly, Rihanna’s body is adorned by a collection of about 20 small tattoos, which include: a music note on her ankle; a pisces sign behind her right ear; a star in her left ear; the word “Love” on her left middle finger; the phrase “Freedom in Messiah” in Arabic on her ribcage; a trail of stars going down the back of her neck; the word “Shhh…” on her right index finger; the date ‘4.11.1986’ in roman numerals on top of her left shoulder; a handgun on her ribcage; the words “Thug Life” on her knuckles; a small cross on her collar bone; an Egyptian falcon shaped like a gun on her right foot; and a goddess Isis above her stomach.
