In what may come as a big surprise to most people, no fewer than 15 persons recently returned certificates issued to them by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). Majid al-Majid, the commander of the al-Qaeda-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades, has died in custody in a hospital in Lebanon, state media say.

The Management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Friday announced that the school would resume on Monday, Jan. 6, for the 2012/2013 rain semester.

Chidi Lloyd Arrested for Alleged Murder

THE Rivers State Police Command said it had arrested the Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Chidi Lloyd, for the alleged murder of his kinsman, Mr. Kingsley Ejeuo and a police sergeant, Urang Obediah.

A statement made available to The PUNCH on Thursday night indicated that Lloyd was purportedly arrested on his way to join the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, in his private jet in order to escape justice.

The statement sent via e-mail by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, specified that Lloyd knocked down Obediah while pursuing Ejeuo, identified to be his political opponent.

According to the report, the body of the 30 year old man was found around 1 a.m. yesterday dangling from a rope tied to the hook of a fan in an uncompleted storey building at 1, Alice Ogunsona Street, Hilltop Estate, Eruwen, Ikorodu. James Avery, the actor who played Uncle Phil in popular 90s sitcom Fresh Prince of Bel Air has died. He passed away yesterday December 31st in an LA hospital days after undergoing open heart surgery. President Jonathan will in his second and major New Year message to Nigerians roll out a list of his “achievements” in the past year, to debunk criticisms by the political opponents that his government has failed.
His first message issued earlier today dealt with the 100th anniversary of the amalgamation of the different tribes in the geographical entity now called Nigeria. President Jonathan asked Nigerians to continue to forge a sense of unity.
Among the claims he will make in his national broadcast on Wednesday morning, is that his government created an astounding 1.6 million jobs in 2013 alone. But he will not clarify in which sectors the jobs were created.
