Fashola announces reduction in LASU Tuition fee

 

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday announced the reduction of tuition fees of the Lagos State University (LASU) by between 34 per cent and 60 per cent.

Mr Fatai Olukoga, Special Adviser to Gov. Babatunde Fashola on Education, announced the reduction at a news conference in Ikeja.

He said the reduction, which cut across the different faculties and courses, was recommended by an Ad hoc committee set up to review the hiked fees and approved by the State Executive Council.

The Special Adviser said that the Governing Council of the University would issue details of what the reduction translated into and the fees payable by students in each department.

New Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi still operates from Govt House

Two days after his appointment as the new Emir of Kano, former CBN Governor, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is yet to resume duties at the Emir’s palace, in accordance with tradition.

Sanusi who was said to have been sneaked into the Government house to prevent him from being arrested before he was named the new Emir is still very much at the government house.

Guests such as Alhaji Aliko Dagote, Edo State Governor, Imo State Governor and few others who were supposed to pay homage to him at his palace have been forced to visit him at the government house since he is yet to resume office.

Meanwhile normalcy has returned to the streets of Kano, as people now go about their daily activities

Super Eagles arrives Brazil safely (Photos)

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have finally arrived in Brazil for the 2014 #WorldCup starting this Friday June 13th. The footballers traveled over 15 hours: One and a half hours to Miami, 9 hours to Sao Paolo and a two-hour bus ride to their hotel. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had said in a statement that the team would fly aboard an American Airline flight from the Miami International Airport and would land at the Guarulhos International Airport, Sao Paolo, Brazil 9pm local time.
The team is expected to move to their base, Hotel Campiness, on the outskirts of Sao Paolo Brazil.
They will also be training at the 40,988 capacity Estadio Brinco de Ouro de Princesa stadium located in the heart of the city of Campinas. Nigeria's first match is against Iran on Monday, 16th June, 2014.

Military kills over 50 Boko Haram Member in Borno

According to a press release by the military yesterday, over 50 terrorists were killed in Borno.The terrorists who were on their way to attack selected communities were ambushed by troops along  Bilta, Borno state on receiving intelligence report of the terrorists’ intention.

The attack was launched on the terrorists as they filed out of the forest to embark on their mission at about 10pm on Saturday.  Over 50 terrorists died in the fierce encounter that ensued, while 30 rifles, 36 Hand Grenades, 7 Machine guns and 11 Rocket Propelled grenade tubes were captured by the troops.  Also recovered from the terrorists were over 3,500 rounds of ammunition, 6 smoke grenade canisters and locally fabricated guns as well as 4 vehicles used by the terrorists in the foiled attack.

Family insists that Christ Embassy Pastor must marry their Dead daughter

The family of a 28-year-old woman, Vivian Ndukwu, has demanded that the marriage rites of their late daughter must be performed by a pastor of the Christ Embassy, who has been accused of being responsible
for the pregnancy that allegedly led to her death.
According to Punch, it was gathered that the 29-year-old pastor, identified simply as Hillary, was being detained at the State Criminal Investigations Department, Yaba, Lagos.
He was accused by the family to have had a secret romantic relationship with the deceased, who was a choir member in the church.
It was said that in order to avoid scandals, the couple decided to keep the relationship a secret. The secret romance continued until Vivian became pregnant. When it became obvious that they could no longer keep the pregnancy a secret, Vivian was said to have
agreed with Hillary that she should relocate to Agbara town in Ogun State to stay with a woman who had an orphanage.

Politician with their politirika ideas hmmm Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, has disclosed to members of staff of the Assembly that he would run for the 2015 governorship election in the state because God told him to do so.

Ikuforiji, who spoke with the members of staff during a quarterly general meeting within the Assembly complex at the weekend, said he was seeking to contest for the governorship post under the umbrella of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The meeting is usually organised by the leadership of the House for interaction with the staff.

The Speaker said he had consulted with God and that God had asked him to move on in his bid to be the next governor of the state.

Protest in Kano as Sanusi Lamido becomes the New Emir

 

Ba muso! Ba muso!! that was what the protesters are chanting. Protests broke out in parts of Kano on Sunday shortly after a former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Lamido Sanusi was   named the new Emir of Kano.

Sanusi, who by his appointment becomes the 14th Emir of Kano, takes over from Ado Ibrahim,who died on Friday.

Before the Secretary to the Kano State Government, Dr. Rabiu Bichi, announced the decision on Sunday, the Peoples Democratic Party and the Nothern States Governors’ Forum had goofed by rushing to issue statements congratulating   Sanusi Ado Bayero, the son of late Ado Bayero, as the new Emir.

The ex-CBN governor’s appointment brought to an end, the succession battle which pitted the contenders and their supporters against one another.

SHOCKING REVELATIONS! 15 Boko Haram men raped me 15times a day-Says Escaped Chibok Girls

More shocking revelations have emerged to shed more light on the agony of the missing Chibok girls, based on the account of one of the escapees.

Three of the girls have so far escaped from the terrorist group, Boko Haram, who abducted over 200 girls from a government secondary school in Chibok, Borno State on the night of April 14, 2014.

A clergy and expert on counter-terrorism, Oladimeji Thompson, of The Omoluabi Network, who has been working with other groups to assist victims of the abduction overcome their pains, gave a chilling narration based on an account of one of the escapees.

He said, “One of the girls I interviewed was being raped 15 times by 15 men every day.” He said the girl was traumatised and confused.

“It’s obvious this girl needs to be managed. She looked confused. She found it hard to talk to me but after much prodding, she confessed to me that she was raped 15 times by 15 men throughout the time she was with the Islamic insurgents before she could escape from their den.

#UNILAGPROTEST Update! UNILAG Management announce the reversal of the Tuition hike

The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has immediately pronounced a reversal of the hiked fees for course registration, and other charges, described as “obnoxious” by the protesting students this Friday morning.
 The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic & Research, Prof. Babajide Alo, who addressed the students as they occupied the senate building, also directed that the imposition of various charges on students to register separately for General Studies (GST) courses, be immediately reversed.
He advised the students who had paid to approach their faculty officers with teller evidence for a refund.
Prof. Alo pronounced that the increased charges from N10, 000 for late registration of courses, to N25, 000, are also immediately reversed. He added that the registration portals, which had been shut down, are now immediately re-opened for students to edit their courses for examination.

Soldiers have prevented the distribution of today’s edition of Vanguard newspaper in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, just as the circulation vehicles going to the South South and South East with the papers were stopped at Ore and Warri in Ondo and Delta states respectively.

In Ibadan, our correspondent gathered that Vanguard was not the only target as two other newspaper vans were also impounded, their drivers detained with their phones seized. 

The soldiers have however cordoned off  all roads leading to Oke Padre, a major distribution point for newspapers and magazines in the South West.

Like it is a season of protest as Nigerian are tired of the heat of this current dispensation.A riot is currently going on in the University of Lagos an eyewitness has confirmed.
Students are protesting against UNILAG authority demanding that some students pay N25,000 for late registration, N20,000 for editing of courses and N15,000 for convocation gown!
The students first converged at the University’s Senate Building where they shouted slogans and sang protest songs, demanding that the school ends this form of exploitation today, while accusing their VC of corruption. They left the senate building and went on a rampage through all the faculties in UNILAG demanding their rights.

Emir of Kano Has Passed on at 83

One of Nigeria’s Paramount traditional rulers, Ado Abdullahi Bayero, the Emir of Kano has died. The Emir died early today June 6th in Kano according to family sources.

Ado Bayero has been the Emir of Kano since 1963 and was a former ambassador to Senegal. May  Allah grant him Aljanat Firdaos..amen.

LASU Students relocates to Governor's Office with Cooking pots,Matress, and mats

The Lagos State University students on Thursday stormed the office of Governor Babatunde Fashola at Alausa, Ikeja, and said they would not return home until their school fees were reduced and their arrested colleagues released unconditionally.

The students, who arrived at the office at about 3pm in over 10 buses, came along with mats, mosquito nets and cooking pots, among others.

To show their seriousness, the female students quickly swung into action, setting up firewoods to prepare beans near the entrance of the Governor’s Office.

The students also defied a downpour that threatened their demonstration, as they danced to solidarity songs and held mid-day prayers to seek divine intervention.

In a letter to Fashola, titled, ‘Save our future’,  the students alleged that the tuition hike had taken education beyond their reach.

Explosion rocks Gombe State Governor Private residence

An explosion rocked Governor Ibrahim Dakwambo’s private house, which also serves as his official residence in Gombe yesterday. The blast, according to SaharaReporters targeted a Police Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) that was stationed in front of his house. The bombing also touched-off multiple explosions and had rocked the district where the governor resides.
No casualties or fatalities at this time. The Liaison Officer to Gombe State in Abuja confirmed the attack to SaharaReporters over the phone.

EFFC Arraigns Jesse Omokoh for allegedly defrauding 67yr Old Australian Woman

Omokoh Orowo Jesse, the Nigerian guy who was arrested for allegedly scamming 67year old Australian grandmother, Jette Jacobs of $90,000, who was later found dead in her hotel in South Africa, was yesterday June 4th arraigned before an Oyo State High Court, Ibadan, on a 9-count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretense.

Jette, who had met Jesse on an online dating site, was found dead in her hotel room in February 2013 five days after meeting with Jesse. Jesse disappeared after her death but was caught almost a year after in Lagos in a raid . Jesse is currently not being held for her death. Continue...

Cultist damages over 20 cars in Bariga Street War

Some guys believed to be members of Aye Fraternity cult group went on a rampage around 10pm yesterday in the Bariga area of Lagos, destroying many cars. The mayhem started from Ore-ofero street and spread to other streets in Bariga. The people who live in the area said the guys started quarreling and it escalated into a full blown street war with cars parked on the road taking the biggest brunt of their anger.

Death Toll hits 100 as Boko Haram dressed in Military Uniform attack 3 Villages in Borno

 

About 100 persons were reportedly killed by insurgents during Tuesday’s attack on three border communities with Cameroon.

The Tuesday’s attack, it was learnt, was a retaliatory one on the three villages of Attagara, Agapalawa and Aganjara in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

Though a security source revealed to journalists that 83 persons were killed in the attack, residents of the area insisted that about 100 persons were killed.

A resident of Maiduguri, who lost his brother in the attack, told journalists anonymously that the armed men, dressed in military camouflage, drove into the three communities of Attagara, Agapalawa and Aganjara in military vehicles.

They subsequently gathered the unsuspecting villagers and opened fire on them.

Se Na by Force! Okupe lambasts Ezekwesili for refusing handshake

The Senior Special Assistant to the president on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe has taken a swipe on former Minister for Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, who is now leading protesters against the government in a bid to rescue the abducted Chibok girls, for refusing to shake hands with him at the Heathrow Airport, London.

Okupe took to twitter to vent his frustration at what he termed ‘unnecessary hostility and childish’ behaviour of Ezekwesili, regretting that it is unlike of a Christian, especially a pastor’s wife. Okupe concludes that madam Eezekwesili is unfit for leadership.

EFCC arraigns Hon Aliyu Gebi over dud Cheques worth over N125m

A member of Nigeria's House of Representative, Hon Aliyu Gebi representing Bauchi Federal Constituency was on tuesday arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja on a 13-count charge of issuing dud cheques worth over 125 million Naira to one Usman Mustapha,

According to papers filed by the EFCC, one of the charges against Gebi read "That you, Hon. Aliyu Gebi, being the owner and sole signatory of Craft Technology Ltd  on or about the 12/01/2012 at Abuja Judicial Division of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory did obtain credit by issuing a UBA Plc cheque No. 00091852 in the sum of N10,000.000.00 (Ten Million naira) only in favour

"Kefee’s husband, Teddy Don-Momoh, has called on friends, well-wishers and Nigerians as a whole to join him in prayers for the life of his wife. Teddy made the plea from the U.S. where his wife is still under intensive care at the hospital.
`Kefee wants her friends, fans and well-wishers to know that she loves them. We just need prayers now; she just needs our prayers now because there is nothing God cannot do; prayer is the key. God is still the same yesterday, today and forever, He has done it before and he will do it again,’’ he said.......... Kefee collapsed on a Chicago-bound flight some days back which forced the plane to make an emergency landing in Los Angeles so she could receive medical attention.
