A male cabin crew of Arik Air, has told the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) investigators how members of staff of the airline smuggle drugs aboard flights.
Premium Times reports,
A catering loader at the airline identified as Oliver Chibuzor, who was arrested by NDLEA officials, said they subvert airport security checks by concealing cocaine in catering supplies,  reports.
Chika Udensi, a senior member of the Arik Air cabin crew‎, on Monday August 24  was arrested by UK Border Force officials with 20 kg of cocaine at Heathrow Airport in London.

The PDP must reform lest it dies -Doyin Okupe

 

A former aide to President Goodluck Jonathan and a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Doyin Okupe, has warned that the party might go into extinction.
According to Punch Newspapers, the former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, said “The time has come for the PDP, if it must remain politically relevant, to embark on a total overhaul and reform itself. It must engage Nigerians in a new coalition for the sole purpose of putting our dear country on the path to true, real and the enduring change that will, once and for, all establish us as a major global player, not pretenders that we presently are.”
Adding that “The PDP must reform lest it dies, God forbids, a painful and insidious death.”
Okupe who was a vocal figure during Jonathan’s administration also said “The party (PDP) has suffered very serious bashing from the sustained avalanche of assaults from the gigantic propaganda machinery of the now ruling party.”

 Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS ), Major General Tukur Yusuf Buratai  narrowly escaped death on Saturday 22nd of july as his convoy was ambushed by suspected Boko Haram gunmen while going from Maiduguri to Dikwa, near the border with Cameroon.

According to Colonel Sani usman, in a statement ,the leading  convoy was ambushed by suspected Boko Haram terrorists at Faljari village between Mafa and Dikwa.However, the terrorists were over powered by the troops who killed 10 and captured five terrorists.

Kaduna State Gov Nasir El Rufai appoints 13 New Commissioners


Mallam Nasir El Rufai  the Kaduna state governor, sworn in 13 new commissioners into his cabinet today. At the swearing in, he charged them to forget about their religious or ethnic affiliations and work for the good of the state.
while speaking the Governor asked the new appointees to serve selflessly, in his word, he said
"You were selected based on your education, capacity, integrity and track record. You were not appointed to represent your LGA, religion or ethnicity. You were appointed to serve the 8 million Kaduna citizens" he said

Chad's President, Idriss Deby has revealed details about the new leader of Boko Haram who supposedly replaced the now-absent Abubakar Shekau.Deby made the disclosure on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, while speaking about Nigeria’s plans to negotiate with the sect during a ceremony to commemorate Chad’s 55 year of independence.
He said:
“There is someone apparently called Mahamat Daoud who is said to have replaced Abubakar Shekau and he wants to negotiate with the Nigerian government. For my part, I would advise not to negotiate with a terrorist.”

DSS Spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar has been transferred to Maiduguri

The Cable reports that ,Ogar, as spokesperson, was responsible for defending the activities of the agency in the media and she is believed to be paying for some of her pronouncements, notably in the face-off with the Bring Back Our Girls movement and the DSS raids on the Lagos office of the All Progressives Congress (APC) last year.

Gunmen hack traditional ruler to death in Enugu State

Deceased traditional ruler of Nkerefi in Nkanu East local government, Igwe P.A. Onuoha The police in Enugu have launched investigation into the murder of the traditional ruler of Nkerefi in Nkanu East local government, Igwe P.A. Onuoha.
A statement from the spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, said that the traditional ruler was killed with three others in the early hours of Saturday, July 11, 2015.
Amaraizu said deceased persons were attacked by unknown gunmen at Mgbanaocha Nkerefi, saying they were left with machete cuts.

See which University ranked Best in Nigeria and 8th in Africa


Among the top best University in Africa, University of Ibadan has emerged the best in Nigeria and the 8th in Africa..The University established in 1948 was ranked by Journals Consortium on 1,447 higher institutions.
The Journals Consortium arrived at the ranking through research publications and citations from the last five years (2010 to 2014) as well as visibility on the internet.
University of Cape Town topped the rank followed by Cairo University , and the University of Pretoria at 3rd place..The top 10 include six institutions from South Africa, two from Egypt and one each from Kenya and Nigeria (University of Ibadan)

The city of Zaria today suffered a terrible act of infamy. Terrorists detonated explosives that killed and injured several persons at the secretariat of the Sabon-Gari local government council. The casualty count as at 12 noon is 25 fatalities, including a two-year old child. Thirty-two injured persons are being treated at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria and other hospitals in the city.

EFCC arraigned Couple for defrauding Professor of $38,000

The couple allegedly defrauded one Professor Uchenna Elike by claiming to help him secure a consultancy job in the Presidency.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday arraigned a couple, Prince Alphonsus Mbakwe and his wife, Mrs Florence Mbakwe before Justice Lawal Akapo of the Lagos State High Court on a five-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and stealing.

One of the EFCC counts read against the couple reads:

“that you Prince Alphonsus Mbakwe between 2010­ and 2014, in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, by false pretence and with the intent to defraud ,obtained the sum of Thirty-eight Thousand Four Hundred United States Dollars ($38,400), from Professor Uchenna Elike by falsely representing to the said Professor

Gov Ambode asks Tribunal to discredit Agbaje's Petition against him

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode (left) and Jimi AgbajiGovernor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have told the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ikeja to discredit the petition of the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) gubernatorial aspirant in the April 11 poll, Jimi Agbaje.
Agbaje had filed a petition before the tribunal, challenging the declaration of Ambode as the winner of the April 11, 2015 governorship election in Lagos State.
The APC plea was contained in a preliminary notice of objection jointly filed before the three-man tribunal headed by Justice Muhammad Sirajo.
Other respondents in the suit are the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) and its Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner.
In the suit, Agbaje alleged irregularities during the election which he said breached the provisions of the INEC approved guidelines for the polls.

Bauchi Govt Recovers 22 cars from Yuguda's wives

A total of 22 cars have allegedly been recovered from the wives of the immediate past governor of Bauchi state, Isa Yuguda, by the transition committee set up by the state's new governor, Mohammed Abubakar.

Chairman of the transition committee, Senator Mohammed Mohammed made this known while addressing newsmen at the State Government House in Bauchi yesterday June 18th.

Gov Nyesom Wike constituted a seven man Judicial Commission of Inquiry to probe Amaechi


Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike yesterday started probe of the administration of his predecessor, Chibuike Amaechi as he constituted a seven man Judicial Commission of Inquiry headed by Justice George Omereji to investigate alleged sale of some state assets as well as the projects for which funds were allegedly released but not executed.

The panel was inaugurated Friday in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Mr. Wike, a former member of the Amaechi administration who later fell out with his boss, has accused Amaechi and others of stealing properties belonging to the government.

He has vowed to recover them.

Suicide bomber kills three near military checkpoint in Borno

The incident is said to have occurred at about 06:07 pm on Saturday, June 13, 2015, at a Civilian Joint Task Force checkpoint near Maiduguri, the state capital.
According to Sahara Reporters, the male bomber, rode on a bicycle to Bale village near Giwa Barracks and detonated the bomb at the check-point.

How plot to kidnap Maikasuwa before Tuesday Inauguration failed


Three different plots but with similar goal: to abort the inauguration of the 8th National Assembly on Tues­day, June 9 failed only when the first leg, and the most crucial one, could not fly.

The first plot was to kidnap the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Alhaji Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa (OFR), from his resi­dence in a highbrow district of Abuja in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.
If that plot had succeeded, the next stage was a carefully composed text message that would be sent out to National Assembly mem­bers-elect of a purported meeting with Presi­dent Muhammadu Buhari at the International Conference Centre (ICC).

Ambode will not be using sirens during his stay in office

 
 Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode will not be using sirens during his stay in office, his spokesperson has said.
According to Ambode’s media aide, Habib Aruna, the Governor will stay in traffic like other citizens instead of using a siren to clear the roads for easy passage.
“In fact, last Tuesday, when the governor was going to the airport to travel to Abuja, he was held up in traffic on Awolowo Way, Ikeja for about 30 minutes. He did not use the siren to pave way for himself,” Aruna said.

Buhari/Osinbajo to declare asset Public after verification

President Muhammadu BuhariPresident Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday said that the public release of his asset declaration is being delayed by the Code of Conduct Bureau.
According to President Buhari, his declared assets and those of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo will be released to the public upon the completion of their verification by the bureau. Buhari hoped that the verification exercise would be completed before the expiration of the 100-day deadline within which he and Osinbajo said they would do this.

Sen Lawan emerges APC Sen Presidential Candidate

Oil marketers agree to end queues at filling stations Nationwide


Fuel scarcity long queueOil marketers on Friday said they have dispatched 700 trucks of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), to Abuja as part of efforts to end fuel queues at filling stations nationwide.
This is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting they held in Abuja with the Federal Government and other stakeholders in oil and gas sector.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the meeting was held to find lasting solution to the persistent queues at filling stations across the country.
In the communiqué signed by Mr Taiye Haruna, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the marketers agreed to begin to move products to all parts of the nation with immediate effect.

How armed robbers attack two Commercial banks in Ikorodu

The heavily armed gang of robbers which attacked two commercial banks at Ikorodu, last Tuesday also overran the Area N Police Command Headquarters and its Police Division, Ijede-Ikorodu area of Lagos State, Vanguard has gathered.

Sources disclosed that robbers who were armed with Ak-47 rifles and were clad in military camouflage, were said to have attacked the police formations at the same time they struck at the banks.
Meanwhile, members of the Ikorodu bank robbers numbering about 30, had split themselves into two groups during the operation.

One of the groups were said to have attacked Omitoro branch of First Bank, where they carted away an unspecified amount of money, before proceeding to the Ijede branch of Wema Bank where they also unleashed terror on bank customers and passerby. An unidentified man was also said to have been shot in the process.

The other gang which struck at the Area N Command, was said to have thrown the entire command into disarray.

Rivers bans Consumption and production of Local Gin

Rivers State government has banned the consumption of local gin popularly called Ogogoro, following the death of about 32 persons, 15 from Bonny Island and Woji in Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas, and the reported death of another 11 persons in Gokana Local Government Area, which included seven male and four females.

The ban by government was due to the increasing death toll from consumption of the alcoholic liquor and dog meat delicacy alleged to contain poisonous ethanol, which now stand at 32.
Vanguard reports that ,Rivers State Director of Disease Control, Dr. Roland Obed Whyte,expressed concern over difficulty in getting samples of the particular gin popularly called Ogogoro or Kai-kai for thorough clinical analysis.
